9 stays · 6 aparthotels and 3 serviced apartments
Willemstad is the capital of Curaçao and its largest city, built around the Sint Anna Bay inlet, and it suits visitors who want to be in a real town with restaurants and shops rather than a resort. Aparthotels and serviced apartments in Willemstad give you a kitchen and a separate living area, which makes sense for longer island stays, for families, and for anyone working from the city. Our guide to what an aparthotel is explains the format.

Wikivoyage describes Punda as the historic city centre and today the main destination for tourists, with lots of shops and restaurants. It is on the east side of the Sint Anna Bay. A stay here keeps most of the old town on foot.
Stays in or near Punda
Wikivoyage calls Otrobanda a residential neighbourhood across the bay from Punda, joined to it by the Queen Emma bridge and a ferry, with restaurants and fast-food places along the bay and local shops along Breedestraat. Wikipedia and the Curaçao tourism board both describe the Queen Emma Bridge as a pontoon bridge.

Wikipedia lists Pietermaai among the four quarters of the historic centre, on the smaller Waaigat harbour. Wikipedia notes it forms part of the same UNESCO-listed historic centre as Punda, so it is a base for exploring the old quarters rather than a separate resort district.
Stays in or near Pietermaai
Wikivoyage says the Scharlooweg was the main avenue of Jewish merchants at the end of the 19th century. Wikipedia lists Scharloo as one of the four quarters of the UNESCO-listed historic centre, so it is the place to stay for historic architecture close to Punda.
Stays in or near Scharloo
Wikivoyage describes Hato as a town close to Curaçao International Airport. It suits travellers with very early or late flights who prefer to stay near the airport.
Wikipedia says Curaçao International Airport is 12 kilometres north of the city. Wikivoyage describes it as a 10-minute car ride from the city centre, and says taxis are available and buses leave from the airport at intervals during the day. The airport's own website lists car rental on site.
Punda and Otrobanda are joined by the Queen Emma Bridge, a long pontoon bridge, and Wikivoyage notes a ferry as well; the Curaçao tourism board says the Queen Juliana Bridge, a fixed bridge with four traffic lanes that opened in 1974, spans the bay for ships to pass beneath, and Wikipedia says most road traffic now uses it. The historic quarters are compact enough to walk, but a car or taxi is the realistic way to reach beaches elsewhere on the island.
Wikivoyage lists Brievengat, Gosie, Buena Vista and Santa Maria among the residential districts of Willemstad, away from the old town. A kitchen is worth having if you plan several weeks on the island, and Punda's Plasa Bieu, where Wikivoyage says lunch is served on weekdays, gives a local alternative for meals.
Wikipedia says Willemstad has a hot semi-arid climate, so air conditioning and shade matter more than heating when you compare apartments. The city centre's cafes and shops cluster in Punda and Otrobanda, which makes those areas the easiest for a working week without a car.
Wikivoyage says Curaçao is warm and sunny throughout the year, with an average temperature of about 27 degrees Celsius and trade winds from the east. It gives the rainy season as October to February, with showers mostly at night, and says the island lies outside the hurricane belt.
Wikipedia classes Willemstad as having a hot semi-arid climate with hot summers and winters, so there is no cold season to avoid. Choose dates by flights and school holidays rather than weather.
Wikipedia says the historic centre has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997 and that its four quarters are Punda and Otrobanda, separated by the Sint Anna Bay, plus Scharloo and Pietermaai on the smaller Waaigat harbour. Wikipedia also says the city holds about 90 per cent of the island's population. See the wider Curaçao page for the island as a whole.
