10 stays · 9 aparthotels and 1 serviced apartments
Aparthotels and serviced apartments are a natural choice in Grand-Baie, the main resort on the north coast of Mauritius. Most people stay for a week or more, split their time between beaches, boat trips and the restaurants and shops in the village, and a kitchen makes it easy to self-cater on quieter evenings. Families and groups sharing also benefit from separate living space, and longer stays are easier with laundry facilities close to hand.

The centre of Grand-Baie is the hub for shops, restaurants and bars. Two modern malls, Sunset Boulevard and Grand Baie La Croisette, sit here alongside the Grand Baie bazaar, which sells handcrafted souvenirs, spices and textiles. The Ile Maurice guide calls the village the Saint-Tropez of Mauritius, with bars, discos and beachside restaurants that come alive after dark, and the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority describes Grand Baie as the centre of the action in the north, with beach clubs, bars and over 50 restaurants.

La Cuvette is a public beach in Grand Baie. Wikivoyage describes it as a long beach with clear water, used for sailing, windsurfing and waterskiing, and the Ile Maurice guide names it among the nearby beaches, each with its own charm. It suits a beach morning with the shops and restaurants nearby.

Péreybère is the beach next to Grand-Baie. Wikivoyage describes it as a small cove between Grand Baie and Cap Malheureux and a popular public beach with shops, restaurants and pubs. It has a more beach-focused feel than the centre.
Mont Choisy is another beach named by the Ile Maurice guide among those near Grand-Baie, to the west of the centre. Wikivoyage describes it as a narrow stretch of white sand about 2 km long. It suits visitors who want a beach routine away from the busiest part of the resort, though you will likely need a taxi, bus or rental car to reach the centre.

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport is in the south-east of the island, roughly 75 km from Grand-Baie, according to the Ile Maurice guide, so allow time for a taxi, transfer or rental car. Wikivoyage notes that the airport can be congested when European flights arrive in the morning.
The Ile Maurice guide says you can reach Grand-Baie by taxi, public bus or rental car, or explore the compact centre on foot. The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority advises negotiating a taxi fare before you start the journey, and Wikivoyage also notes that taxis do not use meters. The Metro Express light rail runs between Port-Louis and Curepipe, so it does not serve the north coast.
For a longer stay, the two malls and the bazaar cover everyday shopping and souvenirs, and a kitchen lets you cook some meals and save restaurants for evenings. Wikipedia's photo gallery of Grand-Baie shows Hindu and Tamil temples and a Catholic church, and one of its photos shows a Thaipusam celebration in the village.
Water activities are the main daytime draw: scuba diving, snorkelling, sailing, water-skiing and parasailing, and catamaran trips to northern islands such as Île Plate and Îlot Gabriel, all described by the Ile Maurice guide. For relocation or remote-work stays, see our guide to serviced apartments for relocation.
Mauritius has two seasons. Wikivoyage describes a hot, wet, humid summer from November to May and a warm, dry winter from May to November, with tropical cyclones a risk between November and April, particularly from late December to March.
The warm, dry winter from May to November is the drier period for beach and boat days. The Ile Maurice guide puts the peak tourist season at October to April and the drier, slightly cooler months at May to September, with temperatures of roughly 22 to 33 degrees Celsius through the year.
The independent Ile Maurice travel guide describes Grand-Baie as once a simple fishing village that has become a popular resort while keeping its Mauritian character. It lies roughly 25 km from Port-Louis and 75 km from the international airport, in the north of Mauritius. If you are comparing accommodation types, our guides to what an aparthotel is and aparthotels versus hotels explain the differences.
