Casco Viejo, also called Casco Antiguo or San Felipe, was built after Henry Morgan's 1671 destruction of Panamá Viejo and conceived as a walled city, according to Wikipedia. It describes a mix of Caribbean, Republican, art deco, French and colonial architecture across around 800 buildings and says the old quarter is one of the city's main attractions, second only to the Panama Canal. Wikipedia also lists it among the centres of the city's nightlife.

Wikivoyage says Tocumen International Airport is in San Miguelito, 32 km north-east of Panama City, with a Panama Metro station near the terminal, and that most air arrivals come through this hub. The domestic Albrook airport is just a few minutes from the city centre, and Wikivoyage says the bus terminal is next to Albrook airport in a shopping mall of the same name.
The Metro opened in 2014, according to Wikivoyage, which calls it by far the preferred way to reach the places it serves, though many places of interest are not on it. Line 2, serving the northern suburbs, opened in 2019. Wikivoyage says MetroBus buses do not accept cash, and fare cards are sold at metro stations, and that taxis have no meter, with fares set by the authorities and based on zones. Wikivoyage describes car travel in the city as notoriously difficult, with continuous traffic jams during weekday work hours.
Wikivoyage says Spanish is the official language, though English is frequently used in tourism and business, and that commerce ranges from major international brands to popular markets and small local shops, such as those clustered along Avenida Central. It also lists the Calidonia area for its street markets, and describes establishments specialising in products from the Chinese and Indian communities.
Panama City has been recognised since 2017 as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, according to the Panama tourism board. Wikipedia classes Panama City's climate as tropical savanna, with about 1,900 mm of rain a year, a wet season from May to November and a dry season from December to April, and temperatures averaging around 27 °C all year. Wikivoyage says the city combines areas of recent buildings and skyscrapers with well-preserved historic neighbourhoods, and Wikipedia describes it as the political and administrative centre of the country as well as a hub for banking and commerce. Where you stay shapes how you travel, since the Metro covers only part of the city. See also Panama for the wider country.
