Busan spreads along a long coastline, and its beach districts, office districts and old port are far enough apart that your base shapes your trip. Aparthotels and serviced apartments in Busan suit that spread-out geography: a kitchen and separate living space make sense for families, remote workers and anyone staying for weeks, whether you choose a beachfront tower or a flat near a metro line.

Haeundae is the most populous district of Busan and the main tourist area. Wikipedia notes luxury hotels along the beachfront and shopping malls and cinema complexes in the area between Haeundae Station and the beach, and Wikivoyage calls it the most accessible area for foreigners. Metro Line 2 and the Donghae line serve it.

Centum City is a development project in Haeundae District, under way since the early 2000s, that Wikipedia now calls a major feature of Busan. Bexco, the Shinsegae shopping mall, the Busan Cinema Center and the Busan Museum of Modern Art are all around Centum City station on Line 2, which suits stays that mix work with shopping and eating out.
Gwangalli is the beach area in the Suyeong district of East Busan, which Wikivoyage lists as another noteworthy destination with its own guide. It is a good alternative to Haeundae if you want a beach base outside the main tourist centre.

Seomyeon is the main office district, at the intersection of metro lines 1 and 2, and Wikivoyage calls it the most crowded area of the city. It is a practical, central base for reaching both the beaches and the old port by metro.

Nampo-dong is Busan's shopping and entertainment downtown, in the south of the city. The Jagalchi seafood market, described by Wikivoyage as the most famous in Korea, is nearby, and Wikivoyage mentions Gamcheon village as one of the older parts of the city worth walking through.

Gimhae International Airport, also known as Busan Airport, is at the western end of Busan. Wikivoyage lists metro, limousine bus, local buses and taxis as options from the airport, and the Busan-Gimhae Light Rail (BGL) connects with metro lines 2 and 3 as a way to reach the city.
The Busan Metro has four lines (1 to 4), complemented by the Donghae line for Haeundae and Songjeong and by the BGL. Signs and announcements are in Korean and English. Wikivoyage says a Cashbee card can be bought at subway stations and convenience stores, and that T-money and Railplus cards are also accepted. KTX trains link Busan with Seoul in roughly 120 to 150 minutes, per the same source. Wikivoyage also points to the Busan City Tour Bus (BUTI), a hop-on, hop-off service from Busan Station.
For a long stay, think about which side of the city you will spend your days on. Haeundae and Centum City offer a modern, resort-and-mall feel with beach access, while Seomyeon puts you at the crossing of two metro lines. Nampo-dong and the old port suit people who enjoy markets and street food.
Wikivoyage notes that using a transport card allows transfers between buses, the Donghae line and the BGL, which makes daily life simple. If you are moving for work, our guide to serviced apartments for relocation covers what to check before you book.
