Aparthotels and serviced apartments in Pittsburgh are spread from the downtown triangle where the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers meet to form the Ohio, to the neighbourhoods strung out along the rivers and hills around it. Wikivoyage says the city's combination of bridges, steep hills and broad rivers gives it a distinctive setting, and that Pittsburgh sits at the confluence of the three rivers.

Wikivoyage calls Downtown the historic, economic, administrative and cultural centre of the city, where the three rivers meet. Pittsburgh Regional Transit's airport bus stops downtown, and Wikivoyage says the light rail, known as the T, connects the south side of the city to downtown and the stadiums.
Stays in or near Downtown
Wikivoyage's North Side district is where two of Pittsburgh's major league sports teams play and where many of the city's museums can be found. Wikivoyage also notes river shuttle services to sports events at the stadiums.
Stays in or near North Side and North Shore
Wikivoyage groups the Strip District and Lawrenceville in one district, a centre of the city's ethnic diversity and a formerly industrial area now with shops and restaurants. It describes food in the Strip, galleries in Lawrenceville, and lists East Liberty, Garfield and Bloomfield and the zoo in Highland Park in the same district.
Stays in or near Strip District
Wikivoyage says Oakland is home to the city's second downtown and many institutions, museums and parks, and groups the quieter residential and shopping neighbourhoods of Shadyside and Squirrel Hill with it. Pittsburgh Regional Transit's airport bus serves Oakland, Shadyside and Point Breeze as well as downtown.
Stays in or near Oakland
Wikivoyage describes the South Side as a hilly region with incline railways up Mount Washington and for views of the city, along with the bar scene in the Southside Flats. Wikivoyage says the light rail connects the south side with downtown, and that the Monongahela and Duquesne Inclines rise from stations near the river.
Pittsburgh International Airport is west of downtown, according to Wikivoyage, which notes that hotel shuttles and buses are available. Pittsburgh Regional Transit's own site describes an airport bus with a stop at the airport's new terminal, serving Point Breeze, Shadyside, Oakland and downtown Pittsburgh, and the West Busway and West Carson Street.
Wikivoyage says Pittsburgh is difficult for strangers to get around in because the roads go every which way, constrained by the rivers and hills, with many one-way and nearly all narrow. It says the public transit operated by Pittsburgh Regional Transit covers bus, light rail and incline service. The Three Rivers Heritage Trail runs along the rivers for cyclists, and Wikivoyage notes that bike rentals are available through the city.
Wikivoyage points to Shadyside and Squirrel Hill as the quieter residential and shopping neighbourhoods of the Oakland district, and to the Strip District and Lawrenceville as places for shops, restaurants and galleries.
For transit, Wikivoyage says bus and incline fares can be paid with a ConnectCard or by mobile payment through an app. It also notes that evening and Sunday service can be challenging outside the light rail, busway and Downtown-Oakland-Squirrel Hill-Waterfront service, which is worth bearing in mind when choosing a base.
Wikivoyage describes the climate of Pittsburgh as humid continental. Winters are moderately cold with some snowfall and summers are hot and humid. It says Pittsburgh holds a variety of arts and cultural festivals in the summertime, ranging from city-wide events to neighbourhood festivals, parades, studio tours and food tastings.
Wikivoyage adds that many ethnic festivals highlight the local Greek, Italian, Irish, Scottish, German, Bulgarian and Russian communities.
