Fiss is a mountain village in the Landeck district of Tyrol, about 10.5 km south of Landeck above the upper Inn valley, and one of the three villages of the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski area. Aparthotels and serviced apartments suit it because this is a family and group destination: a kitchen, a drying space for ski kit and extra bedrooms make a week much easier, in winter for skiing and in summer for hiking, biking and mountain playgrounds.

An old village that the tourist board describes as a south-facing sun terrace at 1,436 m above sea level, with about 1,000 residents and some 2,000 hours of sunshine a year. The centre is a Rhaeto-Romanic clustered settlement more than 600 years old, with distinctive doorways, and it is the base for Berta's Kinderland ski courses and the Summer Funpark Fiss.

The third village of the ski region, a little north-east of Fiss. Ladis has its own themed hiking trail, the Ladis Research Trail, and regular buses connect it with Fiss and Serfaus, with the hikers' bus on the same route in summer.
One of the three villages, on a plateau about 500 m above the upper Inn valley. It is known for the U-Bahn Serfaus, a small air-cushion underground railway with four stations and a 1,280 m route that allows a car ban in the village. Use of the underground is free of charge.
The nearest railway station is Landeck-Zams, according to the tourist board. From the station, buses and taxis run to the villages, and postbuses operate all year round between Landeck station and the region. Innsbruck, Munich and Zurich are the closest major airports. The tourist board suggests the Scotty app for planning train and bus journeys.
Within the region, the ski bus runs in winter and the hikers' bus, line 221, runs daily between Serfaus, Fiss and Ladis in summer, with extra buses in July and August. With the SFL guest card or the SUPER.SOMMER.CARD the hikers' bus is free in summer. Gondolas connect Serfaus, Fiss and Ladis, many services are free for guests, and e-scooters are available in Serfaus.
Fiss is a small village of about 1,000 residents, so most guests plan their stay around the activities on offer. Berta's Kinderland has ski courses, and in summer the Summer Funpark Fiss has giant slides, a petting zoo and attractions such as the Fisser Flitzer and Skyswing. The region also lists the Wildtierweg Fiss, a wildlife-themed walking route, and eight certified summer lifts for walkers and mountain bikers.
The car-free approach helps longer stays: the tourist board says you can travel without your own car using buses and gondolas, and electric-vehicle charging stations are available across the region. Wikipedia places Fiss 10.5 km south of Landeck, and postbuses connect the region with Landeck station.
The ski area spans 161 km of pistes between 1,200 m and 2,828 m, according to Tirol Werbung, which says the altitude ensures snow until spring. Winter brings the ski bus and the family ski courses, while summer is the season for hiking, biking, climbing and the themed trails. The village records about 2,000 hours of sunshine a year.
The hikers' bus runs daily through summer, and the region adds extra buses in July and August. The Fisser Blochziehen, a carnival custom recognised by UNESCO, takes place in the village once every four years.
