The valley's only railway station, Ötztal station, is at the northern end where the Ötztaler Ache meets the Inn, and it links the valley with the Arlberg railway between Innsbruck and Bludenz. The tourist board lists direct train connections from Germany, Switzerland and elsewhere in Austria to Ötztal-Bahnhof; the northern end of the valley is 50 km west of Innsbruck.
Public buses from Ötztal-Bahnhof or Innsbruck Airport run the length of the valley to the holiday destinations, with stops all the way between the station and the top of the valley. Ötztaler Verkehrsgesellschaft runs the public lines and ski buses, Verkehrsverbund Tirol (VVT) offers a journey planner, and overnight guests receive a Guest Card from their accommodation that includes mobility benefits.
Längenfeld has a thermal spa, a nature park house and an extensive trail network around the village, and tourism is the main source of income in the municipality.
The tourist board points to a local heritage museum and the Ötztal memory archives in the village. Imst lies 25 km to the north-west, and the northern end of the valley is 50 km west of Innsbruck.
The Ötztal lies in the rain shadow of the Alps and is one of the driest areas of the alpine region. The warmest months on average are July and August and the coolest are January and February.
The valley basin around Längenfeld has trails for hiking and cycling in the warmer months and cross-country ski tracks in winter, while the downhill ski resorts are higher up the valley.
The local tourist board describes Längenfeld as the geographical centre of the Ötztal, with the hamlets of Huben and Gries around it and a 20-kilometre valley basin laid out for hiking, cycling and cross-country skiing.
