Lech am Arlberg is a mountain village in Vorarlberg, Austria's westernmost state, and aparthotels and serviced apartments are a practical choice here. Ski weeks involve boots, wet kit and early starts, and a flat with a kitchen, a drying space and room to spread out is easier to live in than a single room, especially for families and groups sharing a week. In summer the same layout suits walkers who want to cook breakfast and pack lunch.

The village centre is where the main services cluster, and the tourist office is at Dorf 164. Staying here keeps you near the local bus and is the natural base for a first visit. Wikipedia places the village on the banks of the Lech river.

Oberlech is one of the named parts of the municipality, set a little to the north of the main village. It suits visitors who want a quieter base apart from the village centre; before booking, check how you will get up and down with luggage and shopping on your travel dates.

Zürs lies a few kilometres south of Lech and is part of the same municipality. Wikivoyage notes that the Rufikopfbahn connects Lech to Zürs on the mountain, so skiers can travel between the two without a car. It is a good choice if your priority is the winter slopes rather than the village's riverside setting.
Wikivoyage describes the usual route as flying to Zürich, from where a coach or taxi, with the Arlberg Express named as a service, takes two to three hours to Zürs and Lech. It also mentions the train from Zürich airport to Langen followed by a taxi, Friedrichshafen airport for selected destinations, and Innsbruck Airport at about one and a half hours' drive. Lech Zürs Tourism provides an arrival page and a route planner on its own site, so check there before you travel.
On arrival you rarely need a car. Lech Zürs Tourism notes a local bus service, and Wikivoyage mentions a bus connection to nearby St. Anton taking about 20 minutes. Lifts provide access up the mountain, including the Rufikopfbahn from Lech to Zürs. Villages within the resort are small, so most movement within them is on foot.
A longer stay in a small high-altitude resort works best when you plan supplies. The village is built around hospitality, so shops and restaurants are geared to visitors; Wikivoyage mentions over 100 restaurants and inns and 14 toque-awarded restaurants, so eating out is plentiful, but an apartment with a kitchen still lets you control your daily routine. Look for ski storage, a drying room and parking details when comparing flats.
In summer, Lech Zürs Tourism highlights hiking, cable cars, biking, golf, canyoning, climbing, family programmes and wellness. A week or two in a self-catering apartment fits that pace well, with long days outdoors and a simple evening at home. If you are working remotely during a stay, ask about connection quality in advance; read our guide to aparthotels versus hotels for what an apartment adds.
Wikipedia describes the climate as subarctic, with cold winters and cool summers, and heavy winter snowfall is the reason the village is a ski destination. Ski Arlberg's official season times for Lech, Oberlech and Zürs run from 2 December 2026 to 18 April 2027, with limited operation possible at the start and end; Wikivoyage lists hiking and wellness as summer draws.
Wikipedia also lists the Philosophicum Lech symposium among the cultural events, and the White Ring, a 22 km ski circuit that it says Guinness World Records recognises as the longest ski race in the world. The months either side of the ski season suit those who prefer a calm village.
Wikipedia places Lech at 1,444 metres above sea level on the banks of the Lech river, in the Bludenz district, with the municipality also covering Zürs, Zug, Oberlech and Stubenbach. It adds that Lech belongs to the Ski Arlberg region, which as of the 2014/15 season had 350 kilometres of groomed slopes and 97 lifts and cable cars. This page explains where to stay, how to arrive, and what the seasons look like. For other options in the country see Austria, and for the neighbouring resort see St. Anton am Arlberg.
Of the 13 properties here, 1 list a laptop-friendly workspace and 9 include some form of housekeeping. Each property page has a facts box, so you can compare apartments before you book.
9 properties list a full kitchen and 4 only a kitchenette, so check the room type if you plan to cook more than simple meals.
Where room sizes are published, the median apartment here is 64 m².
