Aparthotels and serviced apartments suit Jūrmala, a seaside resort that visitors use for beach holidays, spa breaks and long summer stays within reach of Riga. A kitchen helps with family meals after a day on the sand, and extra living space is useful when the weather turns or when several people share. Wikipedia says Jūrmala has a 33 km stretch of white-sand beach, lies roughly 25 km west of Riga and is squeezed between the Gulf of Riga and the Lielupe River. Wikivoyage adds that at some points only 300 m separate the river from the sea.

Wikipedia calls Majori the central neighbourhood of Jūrmala, known for its spa hotels and historic Art Nouveau wooden summer houses. It names the pedestrian street Jomas iela, with shops and restaurants, and the sandy beach as two main draws, and notes that the railway station dates from 1877. Wikivoyage describes Majori as the most central area and the main transit hub via its railway station.

Wikipedia says the Dzintari concert hall was built in 1936 and has since been expanded into an open-air venue, and Wikivoyage lists it among the main attractions. Dzintari is one of the districts in Wikipedia's list between Majori and Bulduri, and the railway line runs through all of these districts.

Bulduri is the next district east of Dzintari in Wikipedia's west-to-east list, and Wikivoyage names it among the main neighbourhoods. It lies further east along the same rail line. Check the distance to the beach and the nearest station for the apartment you consider.

Lielupe is the easternmost district in Wikipedia's list, and the town lies between the Gulf of Riga and the Lielupe River. Check the walking distance to the nearest station and to the beach before booking.

Ķemeri is at the western end of Jūrmala. Wikipedia says Ķemeri National Park, established in 1997, covers 361.85 km2 and includes the Great Ķemeri Bog, where a short 1.4 km and a long 3.4 km boardwalk run to an observation platform. The park's natural sulphur springs led to many resorts and sanatoriums in the 19th century.
The official Jūrmala tourism site says Riga Airport is a 15-minute drive from Jūrmala via the A10 motorway. Trains run through the whole city with 14 stops within the city limits. The ride from Riga Central Station takes 20 to 50 minutes depending on the destination, and Wikivoyage gives 30 minutes from Riga to Majori. The same site mentions minibuses from Riga International Bus Terminal, which take about 30 minutes to Majori, and a summer river ferry that takes 2.5 hours each way.
The official site also says vehicles entering the city pass a toll point, at Priedaine for arrivals from the east, so a stay without a car often means using the train. The site describes a 20 km cycling route from Riga on EuroVelo 10.
Because the railway line serves all districts, a longer stay is easiest in an apartment within walking distance of a station. Majori has the restaurants and shops on Jomas iela, while Bulduri and Lielupe lie further east along the line. Wikipedia mentions beach amenities such as playgrounds and volleyball courts, which suit families.
Wikivoyage lists the Jūrmala Ethnographic Open-Air Museum and the Livu Akvaparks among attractions, and the official site describes a cycling route from Riga, so a week or more can mix beach days with museum and cycling outings. A day trip to Ķemeri National Park adds walking on the bog boardwalks.
Wikivoyage says the peak season runs from June to August for Jūrmala. Wikipedia classes the climate as oceanic.
Outside the peak, Wikipedia's descriptions of Ķemeri National Park's boardwalks and the Majori city museum point to things to do that do not depend on beach weather. The river ferry from Riga is a summer-season service, according to the official site, so check how else you will travel in other months.
The city is long and narrow rather than centred on one square. Wikipedia lists its districts from west to east as Ķemeri, Sloka, Dubulti, Majori, Dzintari, Bulduri and Lielupe, among others, and says the railway from Riga to Tukums, built in 1875–1877, helped make the area a resort. For the capital and the airport, see Riga; for the country, see Latvia.
