AWC and IHG Hotels & Resorts have signed a management agreement for a 184-room Ruby lifestyle hotel in Bangkok’s Silom-Sathorn CBD, with opening scheduled for the third quarter of 2027 (google.com). The former Holiday Inn Express Bangkok Sathorn is being repositioned under the Ruby brand, according to Travel Daily Media’s October 31 report (markets.businessinsider.com).

Ruby enters Thailand and Asia Pacific

IHG describes Thailand as one of Southeast Asia’s key priority markets, while the hotel is aimed at cosmopolitan, style-conscious travellers seeking authentic experiences in city destinations.

Ruby has developed a following in Europe through character-rich, design-led hotels rooted in the cities where they operate. Its model has flexible space requirements and conversion-friendly designs suited to urban properties, according to IHG.

"The introduction of Ruby to Thailand marks a significant milestone for IHG and our valued partners at Asset World Corporation." — Rajit Sukumaran, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, East Asia & Pacific, IHG Hotels & Resorts

Sukumaran said the property would add a lifestyle option to Sathorn and contribute to its development as a destination for business, culture and lifestyle. He also described Bangkok as one of the region’s most compelling travel markets.

A conversion built around a shared lounge

The partnership combines AWC’s local expertise with IHG’s brand strength, global distribution capabilities and loyalty ecosystem.

The 184-room property is described as a lifestyle hotel. Guestrooms are presented as calm, restful retreats from the surrounding city, while the shared facilities provide a social focus.

At the centre of the offering will be the Co-living Lounge, an art- and music-inspired space with a café and mixologist bar. Designed as a place between home and work, it is intended to bring together travellers, Sathorn residents and office workers.

Planned programming includes live music, DJ sets, listening sessions, creative talks and artist collaborations. The announcement also says the hotel will connect guests with the character of its destination and embrace communities through work with local artists, social enterprises and the district’s creative ecosystem.

IHG makes Ruby its sixth Bangkok brand

Ruby will become the sixth IHG brand to debut in Bangkok, following Holiday Inn Express, Hotel Indigo, Staybridge Suites, Kimpton and Vignette Collection. Ruby itself is making its first entry into Thailand and Asia Pacific through the Bangkok property.

IHG says its Thailand portfolio contains more than 80 open and pipeline hotels. The company will support the Bangkok hotel through a global network of more than 7,100 hotels and more than 160 million loyalty members worldwide.

Wallapa Traisorat, AWC’s chief executive officer and president, said the project would connect guests with Sathorn’s character and encourage collaboration with local artists, social enterprises and the district’s creative ecosystem. She also said the agreement would mark the next chapter in AWC’s long-standing partnership with IHG.
