Key takeaways
- The Mettler expansion is valued at more than $725 million.
- The hotel is planned with 406 rooms, including 119 suites.
- The project is expected to open in Summer 2028 and add 900 slot machines.
The project will transform the property into Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tejon, a full-service resort with a 406-room hotel, expanded gaming and additional dining, convention and leisure facilities (LODGING Magazine).
The project
Construction began immediately after the ceremony, with the hotel and other amenities expected to open in Summer 2028 (AOL.com). The property opened as Hard Rock Casino Tejon in November 2025 and stands on Tejon Indian tribal land less than 15 miles south of Bakersfield.
| Key figure | Value |
|---|---|
| Expansion investment | More than $725 million |
| Hotel rooms | 406 |
| Suites | 119 |
| Additional slot machines | 900, taking the total to 3,000 |
| Rock Spa treatment rooms | 13 |
| Construction jobs | More than 1,500 |
| Permanent positions after expansion | More than 1,700 |
Rooms and amenities
The planned hotel will include king and double-queen accommodations, with 119 suites among its 406 rooms. Hotel News Resource reports that the project also includes two resort-style pools with cabanas and daybeds, plus a Rock Spa with 13 treatment rooms.
Gaming capacity will grow by 900 slot machines, bringing the property’s total to 3,000. Dining additions include Council Oak Steaks & Seafood, a new Center Bar and two more outlets in The Marketplace.
Meeting and event facilities will comprise multi-use convention space, three smaller meeting and conference rooms, pre-function space and an outdoor event lawn. These facilities extend the property beyond the casino and restaurant offer it opened with in November 2025.
Cost and employment
The more than $725 million figure applies to the expansion of Hard Rock Casino Tejon. Bakersfield Now reports that the entire hotel and casino project is a $1.3 billion investment, privately funded by the Tejon Indian Tribe.
Hotel News Resource expects the expansion to create more than 1,500 construction jobs during development. It also forecasts 350 permanent positions from the hotel and added amenities, taking the property’s permanent workforce above 1,700 positions.
Bakersfield Now quoted Hard Rock Casino Tejon Vice President of Marketing Kathy DeGolia as saying the expansion would create at least another 300 positions. The two reports therefore differ on the precise permanent-job estimate.
Timing and reaction
The hotel is planned as a 15-story building with 406 rooms and 119 suites. Its anticipated Summer 2028 opening will also introduce the pools, spa, additional gaming and dining, and the expanded meeting and entertainment offer.
“The addition of the hotel and these exceptional resort amenities will allow us to elevate the guest experience even further, attract visitors from across California and beyond, and create a true destination resort that reflects the energy, hospitality and entertainment Hard Rock is known for around the world.” — Mike Bean, property president of Hard Rock Casino Tejon
The expansion is expected to support more than 1,500 construction jobs and 350 permanent positions, taking the property’s permanent workforce beyond 1,700.
