Wikivoyage describes Miraflores as situated on the coast and considered one of the finest districts of Lima, very popular with tourists, with many parks, gardens, high-rise apartment buildings, hotels, restaurants and shops. It adds that paragliding flights start from the cliffs next to Parque del Amor and that Miraflores is the most popular surfing spot in the city. Wikipedia mentions the Larcomar entertainment centre on the cliffs facing the sea.

Wikivoyage says Barranco lies south of Miraflores, with many clubs and cafes popular with college students, and calls it the party heart of town, with peñas offering folkloric music shows. Wikivoyage also notes a weekend food festival called A Taste of Barranco. It suits visitors who want evenings out close to where they sleep.

Wikipedia says the financial district is in San Isidro, which has become the city's financial centre in recent decades, with many national and transnational company headquarters. It adds that San Isidro has the largest hotel building in Peru. It is the natural base for visitors with meetings in the business district.
The Historic Centre of Lima, covering part of the districts of Lima and Rímac, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988, according to Wikipedia, which lists the Plaza Mayor, the Cathedral and the Basilica and Convent of San Francisco among the highlights. Wikipedia says that from the 1990s hotels shifted from the centre to areas such as Miraflores and Barranco, so you may find fewer choices here.
Wikipedia lists Surquillo among the central-southern districts, along with Miraflores, Barranco, Santiago de Surco and San Borja, where Lima's hotels have positioned themselves since the early 1990s.
Wikivoyage places Jorge Chávez International Airport in Callao, a seaport city northwest of Lima. Wikivoyage lists local buses and taxis from the airport to Miraflores, and suggests booking a taxi inside the airport or arranging a private transfer through your accommodation.
Wikivoyage describes Lima's public transport as a metro line, buses, coasters and combis, and says the system can be confusing for foreign visitors. Wikivoyage describes the Lima Metro as an elevated north-south line 2-3 km east of the historical centre and Miraflores, so it does not serve many places where visitors tend to stay. The Metropolitano is a bus rapid transit system with articulated buses on dedicated lanes, running from the northern suburbs through the centre to the southern districts of San Isidro and Miraflores. Wikivoyage adds that the public transport authority, ATU, has a smartphone app with information on the Metropolitano and municipal buses.
For longer stays, Wikivoyage describes Miraflores as full of parks, gardens, shops and restaurants. Wikivoyage lists markets along Avenida Petit Thouars in Miraflores, a short walk from Parque Kennedy, for crafts and souvenirs.
Lima's weather shapes daily routines too: Wikivoyage says the city receives no more than 3 cm of rain a year, and Wikipedia says the winter cloud deck persists from late May until mid-November or even early December. If you are relocating for work, our guide to serviced apartments for relocation explains how the format compares with a lease.
Wikipedia says Lima has a mild desert climate: summer runs from December to April and winter from June to September or October, with May and October to November as transition months. Winter brings grey skies, higher humidity and morning drizzle called garúa, with highs of 16 to 19 °C. Wikivoyage says the summer months from December to February are usually sunny and hot with an extreme UV index.
Wikipedia notes that the winter cloud deck usually develops in late May and persists until mid-November. Because Lima has only 1,284 hours of sunshine a year, according to Wikipedia, with 183 hours in April and 27.9 in August, summer is the better season for sunshine.
Wikipedia says the city is considered the political, cultural, financial and commercial centre of Peru, and Wikivoyage describes a metropolis of about 11 million people. Because Lima is so spread out, the district you choose decides how much of your day is spent travelling. For wider options, see Peru.
