Toronto draws a steady flow of business travellers, students' families, film-festival visitors and people relocating for work, and many of them stay for weeks rather than nights. Aparthotels and serviced apartments in Toronto give that kind of stay room to breathe: a kitchen to cook in, space to work, and in winter a comfortable place to retreat when the temperature drops well below freezing.

The Financial District sits around Union Station, the city's main rail hub and the downtown terminus of the UP Express. Much of it is linked by the PATH underground walkway, which is useful in winter.

Home to the CN Tower and the Rogers Centre, the Entertainment District is a walk from Union Station. It is a strong choice for sports fixtures, theatre and the September film festival.

This area mixes independent shops, food markets and live music venues. It is close to downtown and has the everyday shopping that helps a longer stay.
Stays in or near Kensington Market and Chinatown
East of the core, the Distillery District has historic industrial buildings and galleries, and the St Lawrence Market nearby is a year-round food hall. It is quieter than the Entertainment District but still walkable to downtown.

Queen Street West is known for fashion-forward shops, bars and restaurants. It is a short ride or a long walk west of the Financial District.

From Toronto Pearson, the UP Express train runs to Union Station in under half an hour, stopping at Weston, Mount Dennis and Bloor on the way, and accepts PRESTO and contactless payment. Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, on the Toronto Islands, is much closer to downtown and is reached by a free ferry, one of the shortest scheduled ferry routes in the world, with shuttle buses onwards.
The TTC runs the subway, streetcars and buses. Line 1 Yonge–University forms a U through downtown via Union, and Line 2 Bloor–Danforth crosses the city east to west. Newer light-rail lines include Line 5 Eglinton, which opened in February 2026. PRESTO cards and contactless bank cards work across the network.
St Lawrence Market is a good weekly stop for fresh food, and Kensington Market covers the basics alongside specialist grocers. If you will commute through winter, a base on the PATH or near a subway station makes a real difference.
Set up a PRESTO card or use a contactless card for TTC journeys. For a work move, our guide to serviced apartments for relocation covers what to ask before signing a longer stay.
Winters are cold, with January averages a few degrees below freezing and occasional snow. Summers are warm and humid, with average daytime highs around 27°C and occasional thunderstorms. Late spring and early autumn are the most comfortable for walking.
Pride runs in June, the Toronto Caribbean Carnival spans July and August, the Canadian National Exhibition runs from August into September, and the Toronto International Film Festival takes over downtown in September.
Downtown is compact and well connected, with the PATH network linking many buildings underground, so a central base cuts down on time spent outdoors in the cold months. For a broader Canadian trip, Montreal and Ottawa are the natural next stops.
