Aparthotels & serviced apartments in Lagos

18 stays · 16 aparthotels and 2 serviced apartments

Lagos is Nigeria's financial centre and, by most estimates, its largest city, so many visitors come for work, and aparthotels and serviced apartments in Lagos suit stays of a week or longer: a kitchen, a desk and laundry facilities help when meetings are spread across a very large city. Families and groups get more room than in a single hotel room. Our guide explains what an aparthotel is.

Ikoyi sits next to Victoria Island on the eastern side, and Wikivoyage describes it as having a great number of hotels, night clubs and a recreational park, as well as being a fashionable residential enclave. The Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge connects the area with Lekki. It tends to suit longer, calmer stays.

Ikeja

  • airport access

Ikeja is the capital of Lagos State and, according to Wikivoyage, is where Murtala Muhammed International Airport is located. Yaba

  • university area
  • local life
  • long stays

Yaba is a mainland district and the location of the University of Lagos, per Wikivoyage. Its mainland position makes it a more local-feeling alternative to the islands for visitors with business or university contacts on that side of the lagoon.

Surulere

  • sport
  • local life
  • culture

Surulere is a mainland district that Wikivoyage associates with two stadiums and the National Theatre. It suits visitors going to events there or who want a residential mainland base, rather than the business districts on the islands.

Getting around Lagos

Murtala Muhammed International Airport is one of five international airports listed by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, and Wikivoyage places it in Ikeja on the mainland. Wikivoyage lists connections to hubs including Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London and Paris. Check the distance from the airport to your own accommodation on a map before you travel.

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) runs rail and bus rapid transit. Wikipedia says the Blue Line opened to the public on 4 September 2023 and the first section of the Red Line on 15 October 2024; Wikivoyage describes the completed Blue Line section as running from Marina to Mile 2. LAMATA lists a Blue Line train schedule on its website. Wikivoyage also lists BRT buses on dedicated lanes using the Cowry Card, and lagoon ferries operated by the Lagos Ferry Services Company. Taxis, Uber and Bolt are also listed by Wikivoyage.

Living in Lagos for longer

For longer stays, choose your district around your routine: Victoria Island and Ikoyi are the island-side districts for business and dining, while Yaba and Surulere are mainland residential districts. Because the lagoon splits the city, a base on the same side as your regular commitments will save time.

Wikivoyage mentions Lekki, Alpha, Eleko and Tarkwa Bay among over a dozen beaches for time off. Anyone planning a longer move can read our notes on serviced apartments for relocation.

When to visit Lagos

Wikipedia describes a tropical savanna climate with a wet season from May to October and a dry season from November to April, with a short dry period in July and August. June is the wettest month and January the driest, and mean highs run from about 28 to 32 °C.

Wikivoyage describes the city as very hot year round, with an average temperature of about 26.7 °C.

The city is built around the Lagos Lagoon, with Lagos Island, Victoria Island, Ikoyi and Lekki to the east and the mainland districts of Ikeja, Yaba and Surulere across the water. Because it is so spread out, where you sleep relative to your meetings matters more than almost anything else. If you are heading east along the coast, see also Lekki, and for the capital see Abuja.
