Kopaonik is Serbia's best-known mountain resort, and most visitors come for skiing in winter or hiking in the warmer months. Aparthotels and serviced apartments in Kopaonik suit ski weeks well: a kitchen and a living area help families and groups, and a week-long stay is easier to organise than separate hotel rooms. Getting around Kopaonik

Wikivoyage says Kopaonik National Park is 230 km from Belgrade, that the nearest airport is in Niš, and that it is connected by a modern tarmac road to the Ibar Highway. Wikipedia likewise says the nearest international airport is in Niš. Serbia's tourism board says tourism organisations in Raška and Brus look after the mountain, which makes those towns the gateways.

Wikipedia and the operator Ski Resorts of Serbia both give the lift system a capacity of more than 32,000 skiers per hour, and the operator says it serves about 55 km of alpine runs, so the first thing to check when choosing an apartment is its position relative to the lifts. Check the lift operator's map for the current layout.

Living in Kopaonik for longer

Kopaonik is a resort rather than a town, so for daily shopping, ski rental and restaurants you will rely on the resort's own facilities. A kitchen is useful for breakfasts and simple dinners, and it lets you plan around weather windows rather than restaurant times.

Serbia's tourism board says the destination operates year-round, with skiing in winter and hiking in summer, so a longer stay need not be limited to one season. Wikipedia notes the national park, so summer stays can be built around walking.

When to visit Kopaonik

Wikipedia says the snow season lasts from November to April and that there are around 200 sunny days. Serbia's tourism board gives a similar figure of more than 200 days of sunshine a year. The resort has 12 kilometres of Nordic ski trails according to the same board.

In summer the focus shifts to hiking to places such as the Metođe spring and Lake Semeteš, according to Serbia's tourism board. Wikipedia also notes that in 2019 the longest artificial ski slope in Europe opened at the resort.

Wikipedia describes Kopaonik as a mountain range in Serbia and Kosovo whose highest peak, Pančić's Peak, is 2,017 metres high, and says the Kopaonik ski resort is one of the largest in Southeastern Europe. The tourism board of Serbia calls the range the largest mountain massif in Serbia. Browse the wider Serbia page, or Belgrade if you want a city stay either side of the mountain.
