Where to go, month by month
Where are the best places to travel in July?
Facts checked against the cited sources on
July is peak summer north of the equator and midwinter south of it. That split drives this page. We picked places where July has a stated reason to go: warm weather at the top of the year, a dry season between two wet ones, or, in one case, a cold month for travellers who want exactly that. Each pick comes with its trade-off.
This is our own selection, not a ranking. The reasons are either a festival date published by an official page, or a monthly figure from the WMO World Weather Information Service, which republishes national weather-service averages. Each figure is for one station over the period named in the table, so individual days will differ. For the month that follows, see best places to travel in August.
Calgary: the Stampede and the warmest month
Calgary suits July because of its best-known event and its weather. The Calgary Stampede website, read in October 2026, shows the next Stampede as 9 to 18 July 2027. That date is for the next edition, not the one that has just passed, so check the organiser's page before you plan.
At the Calgary station the WMO lists an average July high of 22.9 degrees Celsius and a low of 9.4, with 67.9 mm of rain over 13 days (1971 to 2000 normals). July is the warmest month in that table, against an average January high of minus 2.8. Nights are cool, so pack a layer. The Canada country hub shows the stays we hold across the country.
Helsinki: the warmest month of a short summer
Helsinki is a July pick for travellers who want warmth without heat. At the Helsinki-Vantaa station the WMO gives an average July high of 21.8 degrees Celsius and a low of 11.8, with 68.8 mm of rain over 9 days (1971 to 2000 normals). It is the warmest month in the table, against a January high of minus 2.6.
The trade-off is the usual one for the Nordic region: summer is short and showers are possible, though the 9 rain days are fewer than the 12 recorded in November and December. The station is the airport rather than the city centre, so central readings can differ a little. See the Finland hub for stays, and consider a kitchen if you plan to cook some meals on a longer visit.
Bergen: mild days, and a lot of rain
Bergen is on this list as a realistic choice for Norway's west coast, not as a dry one. The WMO lists an average July high of 17.6 degrees Celsius and a low of 11.5, which makes July the warmest month at that station (1961 to 1990 normals). Rainfall is 148 mm over 18 days.
That is a lot of rain, though the same table shows September at 283 mm, almost twice the July figure. Plan with waterproofs and flexible days rather than a fixed outdoor schedule. These are decades-old figures for one station, so treat them as the pattern. The Norway hub lists the stays we have in the country.
Ulaanbaatar: a short, warm and showery summer
Ulaanbaatar is a July pick because it is the warmest month of an otherwise harsh year. The WMO lists an average July high of 24.6 degrees Celsius and a low of 12.7, against a January high of minus 15.5 and a low of minus 26.1 (1981 to 2010 normals).
Rain is the trade-off. July has 67.8 mm over 17.1 days, the highest rain-day count in the table, and August is slightly wetter at 71.7 mm. Showers are frequent, even if the totals are modest. We do not give event dates here, so check Mongolia's official tourism channels for any festival you want to attend. See the Mongolia hub for stays.
Dubrovnik: hot, bright and at its driest
Dubrovnik suits travellers who want the Adriatic at its driest. The WMO lists an average July high of 28.3 degrees Celsius and a low of 21.5, with 24.1 mm of rain over 4.4 days. July is the driest month in that table, against 141.9 mm in November. The WMO page does not state the normals period for this station.
The trade-off is heat, and warm nights, with an average low above 21 degrees. so booking early is sensible if your dates are fixed. Our guide to when to book explains timing, and the Croatia hub shows the stays we hold.
Darwin: the dry season in the tropical north
Darwin is a southern-hemisphere pick that works because of its wet and dry seasons. The WMO lists an average July rainfall of just 1.2 mm over 0.4 days, against 465.5 mm over 22.3 days in January (1981 to 2010 normals). July is the driest month in the table.
Temperatures stay warm, at an average high of 30.8 degrees Celsius and a low of 19.4, which makes the nights a little cooler than in the wet months. The dry weather is a tropical pattern, not winter, so expect sun and heat. Browse Darwin stays, and check official park and road notices for any outback trips.
Kigali: the driest month of the year
Kigali is on the list because July is its driest month. The WMO lists 11.4 mm of rain over 1 day, compared with 154.2 mm over 18 days in April (1961 to 1990 normals). The average July high is 27.1 degrees Celsius and the low is 15.0, so days are warm and nights are mild.
These are decades-old figures for one station. The UK Foreign Office's Rwanda page, last updated on 4 September 2026 when we read it in October 2026, covers safety, entry requirements and health, and other governments publish their own advice, so check yours before you plan. See Kigali for stays.
Bariloche: July as a winter month
Bariloche is the counter-example on this page: July is its coldest month. The WMO lists an average July high of 6.7 degrees Celsius and a low of minus 1.6, with 122.1 mm of rain over 14 days (1981 to 2010 normals). It is the lowest high and the lowest low of any month in the table, though June has more rain, at 170.1 mm.
It suits travellers who want winter in July, but we have not verified snow cover or the dates of any ski season from an official source, so check the resort operators directly. Bring proper cold-weather clothing. See Bariloche for stays.
July climate at a glance
The table collects the July figures quoted above so you can compare them. All come from the WMO World Weather Information Service pages for each station. The normals period differs by station, so compare patterns, not exact numbers.

How we chose, and the limits of this list
We looked for places where July has a verifiable reason to go: a dated event on an official page, or a climate figure from a national weather service reported through the WMO. We mixed northern summer destinations with dry-season and winter ones, and we did not use traveller votes or rank the places. The list leaves out many good destinations and says nothing about prices or availability.
Normals are long-term averages, several of them decades old, and each describes a single station. Event dates come from an official page read in October 2026 and can change. Booking early is sensible where your dates are fixed. The table below shows our own aparthotel figures for the countries on this list.
