55 stays · 50 aparthotels and 5 serviced apartments
Many people travelling to Kyiv today come for work, to see family or on assignments that last weeks rather than days, and aparthotels and serviced apartments in Kyiv suit that kind of stay. A kitchen and laundry make longer visits self-sufficient, a separate living area helps when you are working remotely, and an apartment gives families more room than a hotel room.

Khreshchatyk is Kyiv's main boulevard and Maidan Nezalezhnosti its central square, both on the metro with transfer stations between lines. Besarabsky Market sits at the southern end of the boulevard. It is the most central and best-connected place to stay.

Podil is the historic merchant quarter on the low ground by the river, with a growing restaurant and café scene. Kontraktova Ploshcha station on the blue metro line links it with the centre. It has a more relaxed neighbourhood feel that suits longer stays.

Pechersk, named after the cave monasteries of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, founded in 1051, is a leafy district on the hills south-east of the centre. Arsenalna, one of the deepest metro stations in the world at over 100 metres, serves the area. It is calmer than the city centre and suits longer stays.

Passenger flights to Kyiv's airports were suspended in February 2022 and, at the time of writing, there is no confirmed date for their return; check the latest position before planning. Most visitors fly to a neighbouring country and continue overland. Direct trains run from Przemyśl in Poland to Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi station in around nine hours, and there are rail links from Budapest and Chișinău as well as international buses.
Within the city, the metro has three lines, red, blue and green, with 52 stations, and it is the quickest way around. Pay with a contactless bank card, a QR ticket or the Kyiv Digital app rather than cash. During air-raid alerts trains do not cross the Dnieper, so allow extra time if you are staying on the Left Bank.
The centre on the west bank is hilly but walkable, with Khreshchatyk partly closed to traffic at weekends.
For food shopping, Besarabsky Market at the end of Khreshchatyk is the best-known covered market, and supermarkets and shops are spread throughout the central districts. Podil and Pechersk both have a residential feel that makes everyday life easier on a longer stay.
A nightly curfew currently runs from 1am to 5am and the last metro trains leave the central stations at around 22:30, so late evenings take some planning. An air-raid alert app shows when an alert is in force. If you are relocating for work, our guide to serviced apartments for relocation covers what to look for, and our Lviv page covers stays in western Ukraine on the rail route from Poland.
Kyiv has a humid continental climate. Summers are warm, with July highs averaging around 26°C, while winters are cold, with January temperatures mostly below freezing. Late spring and early autumn are the most comfortable seasons for walking the hilly centre.
Given the security situation, the timing of any visit is best decided by current conditions and official travel advice rather than by season.
Kyiv straddles the Dnieper, with the historic centre on the wooded hills of the west bank. The war continues to affect daily life: Russian missile strikes still hit the city intermittently, and a nightly curfew is in force. Check official travel advice and the current situation before you go, and choose accommodation with a nearby shelter in mind.
