Aparthotels and serviced apartments in Lviv give visitors a kitchen and separate living space in a city where many stays run longer than a weekend, whether for work, study or an extended visit. Lviv is Ukraine's fifth-largest city, with a population that Wikipedia puts at roughly 723,000, and its historic centre was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998.

The Old Town is the historic centre around Market Square (Rynok), with cobbled streets and Renaissance, Baroque, Neoclassical and Art Nouveau architecture, as Wikipedia describes it. Most sights are on foot from here, and trams run through the centre.

Freedom Avenue runs by the Lviv Theatre of Opera and Ballet, one of the cultural institutions Wikipedia lists for the city. It sits immediately next to the Old Town, so it works for visitors who want the centre within a short walk.

The area around Lviv railway station is to the west of the centre. The Art Nouveau station opened in 1904 and serves international connections from Poland and domestic routes. It is useful if you arrive by train and want to be close to it, and Wikivoyage lists tram, trolleybus and bus routes across the city.

Lychakiv is a district east of the centre and is home to the well-known Lychakiv Cemetery. It is further from the main sights, so it suits visitors who prefer to be outside the busiest streets and are content with a tram or bus ride.
Because Ukraine's airspace is closed to civil aviation, travellers currently do not fly into Lviv. Wikivoyage says visitors use Polish airports and continue by train or bus, and that Lviv Central railway station has international connections from Poland and domestic routes from Kyiv, Odesa and Uzhhorod. Wikipedia lists the airport as 6 km from the city centre and closed to civilian flights since 24 February 2022. For current entry conditions and advice, consult official government travel advice.
In the city, Lviv's trams are run by the municipal company Lvivelectrotrans and Wikipedia records eight tram routes as of 2024. The first tram in Ukraine opened in Lviv in 1880. Wikivoyage lists trolleybuses, buses and marshrutka minibuses as well, and taxi apps such as Uber, Bolt and Uklon. Wikipedia notes that fares on all urban public transport became cashless in December 2023, with options including the LeoCard transport card and contactless payment.
For a longer stay, the Old Town gives you restaurants, cafés and sights on foot, while areas such as Lychakiv are calmer and a tram or bus ride from the centre. A kitchen helps if you are staying for several weeks.
Lviv's official tourism site promotes the Lviv City Card and carries a safety guide for visiting under martial law. Read that guide, and your own government's travel advice, before you travel.
Wikivoyage describes winter temperatures of roughly minus 6 to 2 degrees Celsius and summer highs of 23 to 25 degrees.
The official tourism site features seasonal content on spring flowers and autumn restaurant menus, but the situation in Ukraine means that dates, services and events can change at short notice. Check official sources for the latest position.
Lviv is in western Ukraine, and the current situation affects how travellers reach it. Ukraine's airspace is closed to civil aviation (the UK FCDO's Ukraine page, updated on 2 October 2026, says it remains closed), and Lviv's airport has not handled civilian flights since February 2022. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office publishes its own advice for Lviv region, and readers should consult official travel advice from their own government before planning. Below you will find the main areas, transport details and seasons. See also Ukraine for other destinations, or the relocation guide for longer stays.
