Aparthotels & serviced apartments in Munich

68 stays · 43 aparthotels and 25 serviced apartments · from €77/night

Munich draws trade-fair visitors, project workers and families in roughly equal measure, and aparthotels and serviced apartments in Munich serve all three well. A kitchen and a desk make a multi-week assignment more comfortable, families get room to spread out between days in the Alps or at the English Garden, and during busy periods such as Oktoberfest an apartment can be a practical alternative to a small hotel room.

Getting around Munich

From Munich Airport, S-Bahn lines S1 (via the west of the city) and S8 (via Ostbahnhof and Marienplatz) together run every 10 minutes and reach the central station in about 40 minutes. The Lufthansa Express Bus runs to the central station via Munich North in Schwabing roughly every 20 minutes and takes about 45 minutes.

Within the city, the MVV network integrates U-Bahn, S-Bahn, trams and buses on one ticket system, with single tickets, day tickets and the national monthly Deutschlandticket, which is often the best value for longer stays.

Munich is also good for cycling, with over 200 km of cycle paths and bike-share schemes including MVV's own. The centre is compact enough to explore on foot.

Living in Munich for longer

Viktualienmarkt has been held daily except Sundays and public holidays since 1807, selling flowers, fruit, game, cheese, fish and spices, and weekly farmers' markets operate in many districts. Shops generally open from Monday to Saturday, so plan grocery runs before the weekend.

For a stay of a month or more, a Deutschlandticket covers all local transport in Munich and regional trains across Germany, which makes weekend trips easy. If you are relocating for work, our guide to serviced apartments for relocation covers what to look for. Munich is also well connected by rail to Nuremberg and Stuttgart.

When to visit Munich

Munich's climate is oceanic, bordering on continental: July highs average around 25°C, January's average is close to freezing, and snow falls on around 39 days a year. Summer (June to August) is the wettest season, partly because of thunderstorms from the nearby Alps, and the warm, dry Föhn wind occasionally sweeps in from the mountains.

Oktoberfest runs from mid-September into early October on the Theresienwiese, and the city's Christmas markets open throughout Advent. Both periods, along with major trade fairs, are the busiest times for accommodation, so book early.

The city is easy to navigate, with an integrated MVV network of U-Bahn, S-Bahn, trams and buses and more than 200 km of cycle paths. For a comparison of the two ways to stay, see aparthotel vs hotel.
