Phuket 101 notes the water here is shallow and longtail boats fill the shore, so it is a working harbour rather than a swimming beach.

When to visit Rawai

Wikivoyage divides Phuket's year into three seasons. The monsoon runs from May to October, with rain in the evenings and reduced water clarity. The cool season, from November to February, is described as tolerable weather, and the hot season runs from March to early May, when it is hottest.

Wikivoyage adds that Phuket is hot and humid throughout the year, so the cooler months from November to February are the gentler option for exploring the south on foot.

Rawai is a working harbour rather than a classic resort beach, so the best strategy is to pick a base and treat the rest of the south of the island as your neighbourhood. For the busier beach resorts on the west coast, see Karon and Patong Beach.
