North-west of the centre, the Citadelle was built by Vauban between 1667 and 1670, and Wikivoyage notes that it includes a zoo. The Jardin Vauban is in the same part of the city, and the area lies away from the old town.

Lille-Europe handles high-speed services and Lille-Flandres regional trains. Wikipedia gives the Eurostar journey to London as about 80 minutes, the TGV to Paris as one hour and the TGV to Brussels as 38 minutes. Lille also has its own airport, and Wikivoyage lists Brussels South Charleroi Airport, about 120 km away; FlixBus and BlaBlaCar coach services also connect Lille with European cities.
The Lille Metro is a driverless VAL system with two lines (M1 and M2) and 60 stations, opened in 1983 and running from 5 a.m. until midnight. Wikivoyage lists tram and bus services operated by Ilevia, and the V'Lille bike-share scheme. The Lille City Pass, which the tourist office describes as free access to 20 tourist and cultural sites, offers transport as an option.
