Toulouse is France's fourth-largest city and a major centre of aviation and spaceflight, so aparthotels and serviced apartments in Toulouse are popular with business travellers, engineers on project work and families who want a kitchen and extra space. Wikivoyage notes that Airbus is the largest employer in the region, which keeps weekday demand strong and makes longer stays common.

Blagnac is the suburb by Toulouse-Blagnac Airport and the Airbus site, where visits to the A350 production line and the Aeroscopia museum are available. Wikivoyage places the Airbus visit 2 km north of the airport. Tram T1 and Tisseo buses link the area to the city.

Getting around Toulouse

Toulouse-Blagnac Airport is 8 km west of the city, according to Wikivoyage, which describes several ways in: an Airport Navette shuttle from the arrivals area to the main railway station, Tisseo buses to the tram at Blagnac, taxis, and ride-hailing apps. The airport has direct flights to more than 70 destinations according to its own website.

Tisseo operates the city's buses, trams, metro and cable car. Metro line A runs south-west to north-east through Arenes and the railway station, and line B runs north to south, passing the station and Palais de Justice. Tram T1 starts at Palais de Justice. The historic centre is compact, and Wikivoyage says the city has a dense network of bike lanes, with bike hire organised by the Town Hall and a pleasant bike path along the Canal du Midi. It advises against driving downtown, where parking is limited.

Living in Toulouse for longer

Wikivoyage names Carrefour as the main supermarket chain in the centre. Fruit and vegetable markets are held along Boulevard de Strasbourg on weekday mornings, next to the Saint-Aubin basilica on Sunday mornings, and on the boulevard beside the Jeanne d'Arc metro station. Flea markets take place on Saturday mornings outside Saint-Sernin and on the first weekend of the month at the Allees Francois Verdier.

For students and remote workers, the Saint-Sernin area has a Saturday flea market, a free Japanese garden and metro access to line A, which runs from the University. Our guide to serviced apartments for relocation has practical advice for moves of a month or more.

When to visit Toulouse

Wikipedia classes Toulouse as having a four-season humid subtropical climate, noting that too much summer rainfall keeps it out of the Mediterranean category. Check a forecast close to your dates, because summer weather can include rain as well as heat.

Wikivoyage lists the Canal du Midi path, the Jardin des Plantes and museums such as the Augustins, the Jacobins and the Cite de l'Espace among the sights, so you can mix outdoor and indoor plans depending on the weather. Wikivoyage points to La Dépêche du Midi and Intramuros for local listings.

The city is also easy to enjoy at a slower pace. Its old centre is compact and mostly walkable, the Canal du Midi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Garonne runs through the middle. For other southern French bases see Montpellier and Bordeaux, or browse the France hub.
