The main railway station for the municipality is here, on the Cercanías Málaga line that runs between Málaga, the airport and Fuengirola. A Friday market is one of the local attractions, and a cable car runs from here to the summit of Calamorro.

The original village lies about three kilometres inland at roughly 200 metres above sea level. Its core is a white-fronted Andalusian village, although there are many recent buildings in modern styles, and it has an archaeological museum with local finds going back to the Bronze Age. Orange local buses climb to it from the coastal road, passing through Arroyo de la Miel.

Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport lies along the coast from Benalmádena and has its own station on the Cercanías Málaga line, which runs along the coast from Málaga to Fuengirola and stops at Benalmádena-Arroyo de la Miel and Torremuelle. A taxi rank serves the airport.

A single ticket covers metropolitan and urban buses, Cercanías Málaga and the Málaga metro.
