Getting around Larnaka

Larnaka's international airport is in the neighbouring village of Dromolaxia, around 6 km west of the town centre according to a travel guide. Bus 425 runs from the airport to the town centre every 20 minutes during the day, and its route goes via Makenzy and Foinikoudes to Larnaka station; routes 407, 429, 430, 431 and 432 also link the airport and nearby places, and night routes 446 and 456 run in the evening. A taxi to the town takes about 15 minutes.

Wikipedia says public transport in Larnaka is by bus only, and the independent Cyprus by Bus site lists the airport routes. The seafront is walkable, which is usually the easiest way to move between the promenade, marina and old town. For trips along the coast, the cycling route on the Cyprus tourism website is flat and easy.

Living in Larnaka for longer

A stay of several weeks is easy to organise around the promenade, with restaurants along the front, and a kitchen helps for self-catering. Choose a base near Finikoudes if you want to walk to the old town, or nearer Mackenzie for beach days and the airport bus line.

Larnaka has a hot semi-arid climate with low annual rainfall, according to Wikipedia, with a mean annual temperature of 20.1 degrees Celsius. Winter is when the Salt Lake fills with water and the flamingos arrive, from November to March, so it is a good time for nature walks.

The Kataklysmos festival, known as the Festival of the Flood, is celebrated in early summer and has been extended to about three weeks, according to Wikipedia. Visit between November and March if the flamingos at the Salt Lake are your priority.
