Limassol is the second city of Cyprus, its main seaport and one of the island's principal business hubs, as well as a beach destination with a summer that lasts about six months. Aparthotels and serviced apartments in Limassol suit both sides of the city: professionals on assignment get a kitchen and workspace for weeks at a time, and families on a beach holiday get more room than a hotel offers. Studio apartments with cooking facilities are plentiful here, for both short and long stays.

Around 10 km east of the city, the coast by the ruins of the ancient royal city of Amathus marks the eastern end of the hotel strip that runs from the Old Port. Getting around Limassol

Limassol has no airport of its own: Larnaca International Airport is about 60 km to the north-east and Paphos International Airport about 50 km to the north-west, each roughly 40 minutes away by road. Limassol Airport Express runs buses from both airports to its station at Agios Georgios Havouzas on the western edge of the city, with an extra stop in the tourist area on the Larnaca route; you will need a taxi from the terminus. Shared minibus services also run door to door between the airports and the main towns if booked ahead.

EMEL runs the city and district buses, around 53 lines in all, including route 30 along the beach road between the hotel strip and the port, which runs roughly every 15 minutes. Intercity buses to Nicosia, Larnaca, Paphos and the Troodos leave from the port area. A cycle lane follows the beach road from the Old Port to Dasoudi, with Nextbike shared bicycles along it, and the seaside promenade makes walking between the centre and the tourist area pleasant outside the summer heat.

Living in Limassol for longer

Large supermarket chains, including Lidl and Carrefour, are spread across the city, and the biggest shopping centre, My Mall, is west of the New Port. Outside the tourist area, many smaller shops close for a long lunch break and on Wednesday afternoons, so plan errands for the morning. Tap water is generally safe to drink, and the Motion Cyprus Bus app shows live bus arrival times.

Taxis can be hard to find away from the centre and the tourist strip, so a base near the route 30 corridor makes daily life easier without a car. For relocation stays, see our guide to serviced apartments for relocation.
