The tourist office is on the quay about 500 m north-west of the railway station, according to Wikivoyage, and Place de Verdun, by the cathedral in the old town, is where some long-distance and most local bus services stop.

Wikivoyage places La Rochelle Ville station 500 m south of the old town centre, near the aquarium and the Maritime Museum. Bus services to Île de Ré leave from the Jean Moulin bus station on the south side of the railway station, reached by footbridge.

Wikivoyage describes Les Minimes as a tract of reclaimed land just south of the old harbour. It lists Port des Minimes as one of the biggest pleasure boat marinas in Europe and Plage des Minimes as one of two beaches within the city. A ferry crosses from the Vieux Port to Port des Minimes.

La Rochelle – Île de Ré Airport is about 5 km west of the city, at the east end of the bridge to Île de Ré, according to Wikivoyage. The airport's own site lists direct flights to a range of destinations, some through the year and some only in part of the year. Wikivoyage says TGV trains run from Paris Montparnasse via Poitiers and Niort and take about three hours.
Yélo is the local public transport network. Its official site lists city buses, self-service bikes, an on-demand service, car sharing, a Passeur and Bus de mer water service and a town-centre shuttle. Wikivoyage says buses to Île de Ré leave from near the train station. The tourist office offers the La Rochelle Océan Pass, which it describes as a city pass covering buses, the bus de mer, the passeur, TER trains and regional coaches.
Wikivoyage places the station 500 m south of the old town centre, and Les Minimes on reclaimed land just south of the old harbour. It says Yélo's bike service needs registration at the kiosk in Place de Verdun and that its short-term rentals may not be taken to Île de Ré.
