Aparthotels and serviced apartments suit Acapulco because it is a long-established beach destination, and Wikipedia says most visitors come from central Mexico. A kitchen helps with breakfasts and beach picnics, and the extra space suits larger parties. If you are weighing the formats, see aparthotel vs hotel.

Wikipedia says Acapulco Dorado runs from Icacos along Costera Miguel Alemán, the main avenue, to Papagayo Park, and describes it as the area with the most tourist traffic. Wikivoyage says most of the beaches are in the bay along the Costera, naming Hornos, Papagayo, Tamarindos and Icacos, and that most hotels are along it.
Wikipedia describes the Zócalo as the traditional main square of the old city, lined with shade trees, cafés and shops, with the Fort of San Diego to the east, now the Acapulco Historical Museum. Wikipedia also lists the La Quebrada cliff divers among the area's attractions.
Wikivoyage says the Caleta and Caletilla beaches are protected by La Roqueta island and are on the open ocean side, usually a bit cleaner than the inner bay. Wikipedia names them among the attractions of traditional Acapulco, at the north end of the bay.
Wikipedia says Acapulco Diamante, also called Punta Diamante, is the newest and most developed part of the port, running from Las Brisas to Puerto Marqués and Barra Vieja Beach, and that it is 10 minutes from the airport. It adds that along Boulevard de las Naciones almost all transportation is by car, limousine or golf cart, so plan transport around that.
Wikipedia says Acapulco International Airport has services by international as well as domestic airlines, and puts Acapulco Dorado about 25 minutes from the airport and Acapulco Diamante about 10 minutes. Wikivoyage describes buses from Mexico City taking around five to five and a half hours, and the Autopista del Sol taking around three and a half hours by car without stops.
In the city, Wikipedia mentions many buses and taxis, a government-subsidised colectivo cab system, and a bus rapid transit system. Wikivoyage says taxis are unmetered and describes shared cabs running between the main destinations. Check current routes before relying on any of them.
For longer stays, Wikipedia says most visitors come from central Mexico, especially from Mexico City, and that the area has many condominiums that mostly function as second homes. Wikipedia lists bars and nightlife along the Costera, and Wikivoyage mentions golf courses, nightclubs and historic fortifications.

It says Pacific hurricanes and tropical storms are threats from May through November, and that Hurricane Otis, a Category 5 storm, caused widespread devastation across the city.
The GOV.UK Mexico page notes that reconstruction efforts after the hurricane continue to disrupt tourism, so check which facilities and services are operating when you book. Wikipedia also says luxury liners stop in the port daily from November to April.
Wikipedia describes Acapulco as a city on the Pacific coast of Mexico in the state of Guerrero, and one of Mexico's oldest coastal tourist destinations. It says the resort area has three parts: a traditional area at the north end of the bay, the Acapulco Dorado along the main bay, and Acapulco Diamante at the south end. Before you book, read your own government's current travel advice for Mexico, which has a dedicated entry for Guerrero, including Acapulco.
