Aparthotels & serviced apartments in Abha

32 stays · 29 aparthotels and 3 serviced apartments · from €90/night

Abha sits at roughly 2,270 metres in the Asir mountains, and its mild summers have long made it a summer getaway for Saudi travellers seeking cooler temperatures. That is why aparthotels and serviced apartments work so well in Abha: groups get separate bedrooms and a kitchen, and a base that copes with a week or more of day trips into the mountains rather than a single night.

Al Muftaha is a restored heritage quarter where traditional Asiri architecture now houses galleries, murals and craft shops. A short walk away is Shada Palace, built in 1927 and now a museum of local crafts. With Art Street, which has around ten galleries and several cafés, close by, this is the heart of most itineraries.

Al Soudah

  • nature
  • hiking
  • cool weather

Al Soudah, around half an hour's drive west of central Abha, is home to Jabal Sawda, officially recognised as the highest point in Saudi Arabia, with hiking trails and a cable car. It is cooler than the city and much quieter, so a car is practical for supplies and trips back into town.

Getting around Abha

Abha International Airport lies east of the city and serves both Abha and Khamis Mushait, with flights from Riyadh and Jeddah and routes to other regional cities. There is no rail link, so the onward journey is by taxi, ride-hailing app or hire car. The UK government's travel advice (updated 20 September 2026) advises against all but essential travel to Abha and Khamis Mushait and notes possible flight cancellations and periodic airspace closures; check your airline and your own government's official travel advice before you plan a trip.

The national operator SAPTCO runs intercity coaches from major Saudi cities, and the Abha bus station lies just north of the centre. Within the city the core around Al Muftaha, Shada Palace and Art Street is walkable, but the mountain roads, viewpoints and villages such as Rijal Almaa are spread out, so most visitors rely on a car or arranged tours. Roads into Abha from the coast and from Taif are winding mountain routes, so allow extra time.

Living in Abha for longer

For longer stays, the residential districts east of the centre are practical for driving and errands, while the centre is better for cafés and evening walks. Abha is a university city, home to King Khalid University.

Pack layers: evenings at this altitude can be cool even in summer, and Al Soudah is cooler again. Wear proper shoes for heritage villages and hiking routes.

When to visit Abha

Thanks to its altitude, Abha seldom sees temperatures above 35°C, with average summer highs around 31°C and January nights dropping to about 8°C. Visit Saudi recommends May to September as the best time to visit, and the city hosts a summer festival in the season.

Most rain falls between February and April, with a smaller wet spell in July and August. Snow occasionally falls on the higher ground.

The capital of Asir Province, Abha mixes restored heritage quarters, parks and viewpoints with cafés. Most visitors split their stay between the compact centre around Al Muftaha and Shada Palace and excursions to Al Soudah, Saudi Arabia's highest peak. The airport lies between Abha and Khamis Mushait, which many travellers combine with the city. For more destinations across the Kingdom, see our Saudi Arabia page.
