28 stays · 10 aparthotels and 18 serviced apartments
Naples is a dense, lively city, and aparthotels and serviced apartments in Naples give you room to step back from it: a kitchen for produce from the local street markets, space for a family or a work trip, and a base that works equally well for a long weekend or several weeks. The city is also the usual starting point for Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius and the islands of the bay, so many visitors stay longer than the city alone would justify.

The historic centre is a tangle of small alleys around Via dei Tribunali and Spaccanapoli, with churches, shops and street vendors close together. Wikivoyage describes it as something of a maze, so it rewards walking. Line 1 of the metro and the Montesanto funicular, which climbs to Vomero, both serve its edges.

Chiaia is described by Wikipedia as an affluent seafront quarter, bounded by Piazza Vittoria on the east and Mergellina on the west, with the Villa Comunale park and many luxury brands on its main street. The Chiaia funicular links it to Vomero, and Mergellina has ferry and hydrofoil departures.

Vomero is a hilltop residential quarter of about two square kilometres, known for Piazza Vanvitelli, the Castel Sant'Elmo fortress and views over Vesuvius and the bay. Three funiculars connect it with the districts below, and it has an active pedestrian zone. It suits visitors who prefer quieter evenings and a neighbourhood feel.

Napoli Centrale stands on Piazza Garibaldi and is linked to the city's metro. The Circumvesuviana trains for Pompeii, Herculaneum and Sorrento call at the Garibaldi stop beneath the square. Wikivoyage advises spending no more time in the square than necessary, especially at night, so check the exact street when choosing a base here.

At the western end of Chiaia, Mergellina is a seafront district with a funicular up to Posillipo and a port used by ferries and hydrofoils. Alilauro runs hydrofoils to the islands from Mergellina as well as from Molo Beverello. Trains on Line 2 also stop here.
Naples-Capodichino airport lies about 5.9 km north-north-east of the city, according to Wikipedia. The Alibus, operated by ANM, links it with Piazza Garibaldi and Piazza Municipio, and taxis are available at the terminal. Piazza Municipio is close to the main ferry port at Molo Beverello.
Inside the city, the metro has Line 1 and Line 6, run by ANM, with Line 11 operated by EAV. Line 2 is a commuter rail service crossing the city, and four funiculars (Centrale, Chiaia, Mergellina and Montesanto) climb to the hills. ANM also runs trams and buses. The Circumvesuviana runs regional trains for Sorrento and the archaeological sites. UnicoCampania manages an integrated fare system across the region, and its network supports contactless Tap and Go payment and an app.
For everyday shopping, Wikivoyage points to the Porta Nolana, Pignasecca and Vasto street markets, which also show everyday Neapolitan life, and to an impromptu fish market on Sunday mornings at Rotonda Diaz. Tobacconists and newsagents sell public transport tickets, so a longer stay is easier once you know your nearest one.
If you are relocating for work or study, the hilltop quarter of Vomero, with its pedestrian zone, offers a more residential setting than the historic centre. Our guide to serviced apartments for relocation covers what to ask for. For day trips, Wikivoyage lists Alilauro hydrofoils from Molo Beverello and Mergellina to Capri, Ischia and Procida.
Wikipedia gives Naples a hot-summer Mediterranean climate: mild winters, hot and humid summers, and occasional heavy rainfall in autumn and winter. November is the wettest month and July the driest, and snow is rare in the city although frequent on Vesuvius. Wikivoyage notes more than 300 days of sunshine a year.
The sea is central to many plans here, from island ferries to coastal walks, so check operator timetables for the dates you travel. Wikivoyage notes that boat runs are stopped when the sea is rough.
Naples has the largest historic centre in Europe according to Wikivoyage's summary of the UNESCO evaluation, and much of it is a maze of narrow streets. Choosing the right district matters more here than in most cities. Read our guide to what an aparthotel is if the format is new to you, or see the wider Italy hub and Rome if you are planning a longer route.
Of the 28 properties here, 11 offer an in-apartment washing machine, 2 list a laptop-friendly workspace and 5 include some form of housekeeping. For longer stays, the facts box on each property page shows exactly what the apartments include.
20 properties list a full kitchen and 8 only a kitchenette, so check the room type if you plan to cook more than simple meals.
Where room sizes are published, the median apartment here is 37 m².

The Centro Storico suits first-time visitors who want to walk to the sights, Chiaia is calmer and more upmarket, and Vomero is quiet and residential. The area around the central station is convenient for trains but is one where Wikivoyage advises spending no more time than necessary, especially at night.
The Alibus, operated by ANM, links the airport with Piazza Garibaldi and Piazza Municipio, and taxis wait at the terminal. The airport is about 5.9 km north-north-east of the city.
Yes. Circumvesuviana regional trains leave from Naples for Sorrento, Pompeii and Herculaneum, and all routes pass through the Piazza Garibaldi underground station. Ferries and hydrofoils from the city ports serve Capri, Ischia and Procida.
Wikivoyage says tickets are sold at tobacconists, newsagents and stations rather than on board trains or buses. The UnicoCampania app is another option.
Its markets, metro and funiculars make everyday life straightforward, and it works as a base for the bay, Vesuvius and the archaeological sites. Vomero and Chiaia are the most residential districts.
