The Riviera Nayarit tourism site says Sayulita is just up the coast from Litibú-Higuera Blanca, a separate destination on the southern coast of the Riviera Nayarit. The site describes near-virgin beaches here, about 2 km of them in front of Litibú, with the neighbouring beaches of Punta Negra and Careyero, 10 km northeast of Punta de Mita.

Getting around Sayulita

The tourism board says Sayulita is about 38 km, less than an hour by car, north of Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR). Wikivoyage describes taking a bus or taxi from the airport: use the pedestrian overpass to cross the highway and flag a green-and-white Compostela bus that says Sayulita on the front.

From Sayulita's bus terminal, Wikivoyage describes frequent buses to Puerto Vallarta, taking between 60 and 120 minutes, with about 90 minutes expected. It notes that this is a second-class bus and may not suit travellers with several suitcases. In town, Wikivoyage says nearly everything is walkable in the main part, with a rental car useful if you stay more than a mile or two from the centre.

Living in Sayulita for longer

Wikivoyage says there are ATMs throughout the village, plenty of shops selling tourist items and local art, grocery stores off the main square and many restaurants.
