Aparthotels and serviced apartments suit Badia, the Ladin-speaking municipality at the heart of Alta Badia in the South Tyrol Dolomites, because stays here are usually built around skiing, walking or cycling days. A kitchen is useful for early breakfasts and packed lunches, and a separate living area gives a family somewhere to dry kit and spread out. To compare formats, see aparthotel vs hotel.

Pedraces is one of the two villages that make up Badia proper, according to Wikipedia, on one side of the Gran Ega river. It is a natural base for visitors who want a smaller settlement within Alta Badia rather than one of the larger ski hubs such as Corvara. Check bus stops and lift access against your exact address.

San Leonardo (San Linêrt in Ladin) is the second village of Badia proper, facing Pedraces across the Gran Ega river, according to Wikipedia. Its position next to Pedraces means the two are best treated as a single base: ask which side of the river a property sits on and how far the nearest bus stop is.

La Villa (La Ila in Ladin, Stern in German) is the southern district of the municipality. Wikipedia says the Maratona dles Dolomites cycling event begins in La Ila, and the German Wikipedia says it starts in Stern on the first July weekend. The German article also says the Gran Risa slope hosts a giant slalom race of the Alpine Ski World Cup each mid-December. Check the event calendar if you plan to stay around those dates.

Corvara in Badia lies south of Badia and, according to Wikipedia, is one of the three municipalities in Alta Badia alongside Badia and La Val. If you are choosing between several villages, compare Corvara with Badia on distance to the lifts you plan to use and on the bus connections the tourist board describes. See the Corvara in Badia page for stays there.
The Alta Badia tourist board says the nearest train stations are Brunico-Bruneck, 30 km away and connected by bus several times a day, Bressanone-Brixen, 65 km away, and Bolzano-Bozen, also 65 km away via the Gardena Pass. All three have buses, shuttle services and taxis for the last stage. The board lists Bolzano Airport as the closest airport, with Venice, Milan, Treviso, Verona, Bergamo, Innsbruck and Munich as other options, reached by taxi, shuttle or public transport.
Within the valley, the tourist board says the South Tyrol Guest Pass allows free travel on the region's public transport network for visitors, and that taxi companies belonging to the Alta Badia tourist board operate in the valley. It also says a free shuttle runs between Corvara and Colfosco every thirty minutes in summer. Plan the mix of local buses and your own car around where your accommodation is relative to the lifts.
Longer stays work well in Badia if you want a quieter alternative to the larger resorts. The German Wikipedia says tourism drives the local economy and that the municipality belongs to the Alta Badia tourism association. A kitchen makes it easy to self-cater, and the Ladin-speaking character of the villages is part of the appeal. Visit the what's included in a serviced apartment guide to check basics such as laundry and linen before you book.
The tourist board describes Alta Badia as spanning 16 km between the Val Pusteria and Val Gardena, which makes it a base for several valleys. Autumn is promoted separately by the tourist board, with guided hikes and a trail-running event.

The Gran Risa giant slalom is held in mid-December, which is a busy period for the area.
In summer the tourist board's mobility page mentions cycling access, and its autumn page says summer lifts keep running into early October for high-altitude access. The Maratona dles Dolomites cycling event starts in La Villa on the first weekend of July, according to the German Wikipedia, so expect busy roads and high demand for accommodation around then. The tourist board's autumn page also lists guided hikes and a trail-running event through larch forests during the autumn colours.
