12 stays · 5 aparthotels and 7 serviced apartments
Bormio is a thermal-spring town in the Alta Valtellina, in Lombardy, and aparthotels and serviced apartments suit it well. Ski weeks involve boots, skis and wet clothes, so a flat with a kitchen, drying space and several rooms is easier for families and groups than a single room. The town also has thermal baths and summer mountain roads, so longer stays make sense in more than one season.

The centre is the natural base. Wikipedia says the town is centred on the historic Piazza Cavour and Via Roma and keeps a medieval town centre. Wikivoyage lists alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and ski touring among the things to do, so check which local bus stop is nearest your apartment.
Stays in or near Bormio town centre
Wikipedia says Bormio has long been a tourist attraction because of its thermal baths at Bagni Vecchi, Bagni Nuovi and Terme di Bormio, and Wikivoyage calls Bagni Vecchi the historic baths. It is north of the town centre on the road towards the Stelvio Pass, so it suits stays centred on the spa.
The official Bormio tourism site lists Valdisotto among the districts it covers, along with Bormio, Valfurva, Valdidentro and Sondalo. It lies south of the town centre on the map, and suits guests who prefer a quieter spot and are happy to use local buses or a car.
Valdidentro is another district named by the official tourism site, which promotes bike rides, trekking and the outdoors in summer. It lies north-west of Bormio on the map, so it works best for guests who plan to drive.
Wikipedia says Bormio co-hosted the 1985 and 2005 world championships with Santa Caterina di Valfurva, and the official tourism site lists Valfurva among the districts it covers. It lies south-east of Bormio on the map and is the choice for a smaller mountain base.
Wikivoyage says the nearest airports are about 3 hours away and lists Milan Linate, Milan Malpensa, Bergamo, Brescia and Bolzano. By road it puts Bormio roughly 200 kilometres from Milan and 240 kilometres from Zurich. On buses it says Gianolini runs coaches from Milan and Perego links Bormio with Tirano, Livigno and other Valtellina towns.
Tirano, in Valtellina, has a Trenitalia station on the Tirano-Lecco line and a separate Rhaetian Railway station for the Bernina line to St. Moritz, which is used by the Bernina Express, according to Wikipedia. Check the bus connection from Tirano to Bormio for your dates.
Bormio works for longer stays because the thermal baths give a rainy-day option. Wikipedia names three facilities, Bagni Vecchi, Bagni Nuovi and Terme di Bormio, and the official site mentions QC Terme Bormio and Bormio Terme. Choose an apartment with a kitchen and storage for equipment, and decide whether you will rely on local buses or a car.
The official tourism site points visitors to a planning portal for accommodation, events, services, passes, forecasts and webcams, and for information on whether mountain passes are open. If you are weighing formats, read aparthotel vs hotel and travelling with kids.
Wikipedia says the Bormio ski area has about 50 kilometres of marked runs and fifteen lifts, while the official tourism site describes slopes with an 1,800 metre vertical drop and mentions summer skiing. Wikipedia calls the Pista Stelvio downhill course the second-longest on the World Cup circuit, behind the Lauberhorn.
In summer, the official site promotes bike rides and trekking. Wikipedia says the Stelvio Pass, at 2,757 metres the highest paved pass in the Eastern Alps, is open from May to November, and Wikivoyage lists the Gavia and Stelvio passes as summer-only routes.
Wikipedia describes Bormio as a town and comune of about 4,100 people in the Province of Sondrio, at an elevation of 1,225 metres. It hosted alpine skiing at the 2026 Winter Olympics and the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in 1985 and 2005. The notes below cover where to stay, how to get here and what each season offers.
