Aparthotels and serviced apartments suit Capoliveri well, because a stay here is usually a beach and walking holiday of a week or more, often with a family or a group of friends. Having a kitchen and a separate living area helps when you are cooking for several people after a day on the sand. Capoliveri is a municipality on Elba, in the province of Livorno in Tuscany, and Wikipedia gives it an area of 39.56 km2 and 3,970 inhabitants. If you are weighing up the format, our guide explains what an aparthotel is.

Italian Wikipedia describes a medieval fortified borough of narrow alleys, archways and staircases around a central hilltop piazza, and lists the 17th-century Santuario della Madonna delle Grazie among its sights. English Wikipedia gives its elevation as 167 m, so the beaches are a drive, a bus ride or a seasonal shuttle away. Autolinee Toscane's line 117 ends here, linking it with Portoferraio and Porto Azzurro.
Naregno is one of the municipality's eight frazioni and is named among the beaches served by the Marebus shuttle that Capoliveri's council runs in summer. Italian Wikipedia says the municipality is bordered by the Piombino Channel to the east and the Tyrrhenian Sea to the south. It suits a stay built around a nearby beach rather than the village itself.

Lido is one of Capoliveri's eight frazioni, and the council's Marebus shuttle serves Lido and Calanchiole in summer. It is a sensible choice if you want a beach within reach without relying on the village.

Lacona is a separate frazione, and the council's Marebus shuttle serves it with several stops. It suits visitors who want a beach base further west along the coast.
These three frazioni lie along the southern coast, below Monte Calamita, which Italian Wikipedia says rises within the municipality and holds significant mineral deposits. Italian Wikipedia names Cala dell'Innamorata as a beach along the panoramic road from the old centre through Morcone and Pareti. The council's Marebus announcement lists a Morcone to Innamorata line among the shuttle's routes.

Mola is one of Capoliveri's frazioni. Porto Azzurro, about 2 km north on the map, is a stop on bus line 117 and one of the municipalities bordering Capoliveri, according to Wikipedia. Mola makes a practical base if you want to be near a larger settlement while still reaching the Capoliveri beaches.

Elba lies about 10 km from Piombino on the Tuscan mainland, according to Wikivoyage, which names Toremar and Moby as the ferry operators. Toremar's own site lists crossings from Piombino to Portoferraio, Cavo and Rio Marina. Cavo is the northern end of line 117, so a foot passenger arriving there can continue by bus towards Capoliveri. Marina di Campo Airport also serves regional flights, according to Wikipedia.
On the island, Autolinee Toscane runs urban lines numbered 1 to 10 and suburban lines numbered 116 to 222, with some routes only in summer. Line 117 runs from Portoferraio through Porto Azzurro, Rio Elba, Rio Marina and Cavo to Capoliveri. The operator also sells the Elba Pass in 1-day, 3-day and 6-day versions, and warns that its tickets are not valid on bus lines run by other operators. In summer, Capoliveri's Marebus connects the village with beaches including Naregno, Straccoligno, Lido, Calanchiole, Lacona, Innamorata and Morcone.
For a longer stay, choose the frazione around how you will move. Line 117 serves the village, while the beaches rely on the Marebus in summer or on your own transport. Check the current timetable on the Autolinee Toscane site for the month you are travelling, since some routes run only in summer.
Wikipedia notes that Elba's population of 31,362 increases considerably during the summer, so it is worth confirming how the village and its beaches are served outside that season if you plan to stay into autumn or spring. Wikivoyage describes comprehensive bus service between the main towns, plus car and scooter rental. Pass holders on the Elba Pass also get discounts at some attractions, including museums in Portoferraio and Rio and the Monte Capanne cable car in Marciana.
Wikivoyage describes Elba's climate as predominantly Mediterranean, except on Monte Capanne, where winters tend to be moderately cold, and says precipitation is concentrated in autumn. Wikipedia gives the mountain's height as 1,018 m. The beach shuttle is seasonal: the council runs the Marebus in summer, so check the council's announcement for the current year's dates.
Outside the summer season, some seasonal bus routes stop. Wikivoyage lists hiking, swimming, diving, old castles and churches, and local wine and food among the island's draws. Wikipedia says Napoleon arrived at Portoferraio on 4 May 1814, and Wikivoyage notes that his two residences on the island can be toured.
The municipality is made up of eight subdivisions (frazioni): Innamorata, Lacona, Lido, Madonna delle Grazie, Mola, Morcone, Naregno and Pareti. Where you stay therefore matters more than it would in a compact town, because the beaches are spread along the coast rather than clustered around one centre. This page covers the main places to base yourself and how the island's ferries and buses fit together. For the wider country see Italy.
Of the 14 properties here, 1 offer an in-apartment washing machine, 2 include some form of housekeeping and 3 have a 24-hour front desk. If you are staying more than a few nights, compare the facts box on each property page first.
10 properties list a full kitchen and 4 only a kitchenette, so check the room type if you plan to cook more than simple meals.
Where room sizes are published, the median apartment here is 38 m².

Take a ferry from Piombino to Elba. Toremar lists Piombino to Portoferraio, Cavo and Rio Marina. From Portoferraio or Cavo, Autolinee Toscane's line 117 runs to Capoliveri.
