Getting around Lipari

Wikivoyage says Siremar, Liberty Lines and NGI all connect Lipari to the other Aeolian islands, Sicily and the mainland, and recommends hydrofoils, which are significantly quicker than the ferries, if you are not bringing a vehicle. Siremar's own site says its services are provided through Caronte & Tourist Isole Minori and Liberty Lines. Wikivoyage's Aeolian Islands page lists car ferries and hydrofoils from Milazzo, Messina and Reggio di Calabria, most calling at Lipari first.

On the island, Wikivoyage names Guglielmo Urso as the bus company serving Canneto, Acquacalda, Cave di Pomice, Quattropani and Pianoconte, and says scooters and other vehicles can be hired near the waterfront.

Wikivoyage says Lipari is ideal for trekking, with routes from easy to hard, and that the level of difficulty depends on the season: some tracks are very hard to follow in summer heat. It suggests that spring, autumn and winter are the seasons for walking.

Wikivoyage also notes that houses on the island are not built for heating, that older houses with thick walls stay cooler, and that winter temperatures can fall to between 0 and 10 °C. Wikipedia says Lipari's large archaeological museum covers the history of the Aeolian Islands from prehistoric to classical times, along with vulcanology and marine history.
