Pietra Ligure is a seaside town in the province of Savona, on the Riviera di Ponente in Liguria. Aparthotels and serviced apartments are a natural fit for a resort of this kind: families who spend a week or two on the beach get more out of a kitchen and a separate living area than out of a single room, and visitors who come for climbing or cycling can keep gear in one place and cook their own meals.

Italian Wikipedia says the railway station is close to the historic centre and that the spiaggia delle barche, where fishermen once moored their boats, faces the old town. The Basilica of San Nicolò, begun in 1750 to a design by the Genoese architect Giovanni Battista Montaldo, stands here too. It is the easiest base for guests who want beach, station and restaurants all within walking distance.

The Santuario di Nostra Signora del Soccorso is run by Franciscan friars and grew from a small chapel that Italian Wikipedia dates to the 14th century, with a larger church commissioned in 1548. On the map it lies north-east of the town centre and a little inland, so it is a quieter part of Pietra Ligure for visitors who do not mind the walk or drive back to the beach.

Ranzi is the town's only frazione, historically independent until municipal consolidation in 1928, according to Italian Wikipedia. On the map it lies north-west of the town centre, so it suits guests who want a residential setting and plan how they will reach the coast.
