Aparthotels and serviced apartments suit Selva di Val Gardena, a Dolomites resort where guests ski in winter and hike or bike in summer and often stay a week at a time. A kitchen and a place to dry boots or hang wet gear make a difference on mountain stays, and extra space helps groups and families. Wikipedia describes Selva, or Sëlva in Ladin, as a municipality and village in Val Gardena in South Tyrol, about 30 km east of Bolzano. It sits at 1,563 m and covers 53.2 km2. The valley's official tourism site calls Selva the highest village in Val Gardena, at the foot of the Sella massif.

The Val Gardena tourism site describes Santa Cristina as the village at the base of the Langkofel mountain. Wikipedia lists it, with Ortisei and Selva, as one of the valley's three municipalities. It sits between the other two, so it works as a middle base for a stay that mixes lifts at both ends of the valley.
The tourism site describes Ortisei's pedestrian zone as lively, with shopping, cafés and Ladin charm. Wikipedia says woodcarving has flourished in Val Gardena since the 17th century and that the valley became famous for wooden toys, with Ortisei called the capital of Toyland.
Wikipedia lists the Gardena Pass as one of the four passes crossed by the Sella Ronda, alongside the Campolongo, Pordoi and Sella passes. It matters mainly as a route for skiers rather than as a place to stay.
The Val Gardena tourism site lists arrival by car, train and bus, with bus and taxi transfer services for guests. Wikipedia places Selva about 30 km east of Bolzano. For regional connections, the südtirolmobil site offers regional bus and train network information, a journey planner and an app.
Inside the valley, the tourism site says the Val Gardena Guest Pass provides free use of the public buses for guests staying in the valley, so check with your accommodation whether you will receive it. Wikipedia describes the Sella Ronda as a ski circuit that can be skied clockwise or counter-clockwise, and in summer the same routes can be ridden by mountain bike.
For a stay of a week or more, an apartment close to a bus stop and the lifts keeps the daily logistics simple. The valley tourism site lists 600 km of marked hiking trails and 600 km of mountain-bike routes, so a longer summer stay does not run out of options.
Ladin is the first language of most residents, according to Wikipedia, which also notes that Selva has produced several Olympic athletes in winter sports, which reflects how central skiing is to local life.
Winter is the main season. Wikipedia says Dolomiti Superski, which Selva belongs to, has 1,246 km of slopes and 450 lifts on a single ski pass, and that snowmaking covers most slopes to guarantee skiing from December through April. Wikipedia advises setting off on the Sella Ronda before 10 am because it can take up to six hours.
In summer the valley tourism site promotes hiking, biking, rock climbing and via ferrata. Its event calendar includes FIS Ski World Cup racing in winter and summer festivals.
