The industrial centre of the municipality, with the remains of a Roman villa that includes mosaic pavements. A factory in Via Vespucci, a short walk from the lake, still manufactures graphic and speciality paper, and paper-making in Toscolano goes back to the 14th century.

The Valley of the Paper Mills lies inland from Toscolano, where around sixty small mills once stood along the river. One of them, the last to close, in 1962, reopened as a paper museum in 2007 and offers workshops and guided tours. The surroundings include deep gorges.
A small town on Lake Garda, known for the Vittoriale, the estate of Gabriele d'Annunzio, with its large park, and for the André Heller Botanical Garden.
The closest railway stations to Lake Garda are Desenzano del Garda and Peschiera del Garda in the south and Rovereto in the north. Buses on the western shore are run by Trasporti Brescia, with services leaving from the Autostazione in Brescia, which is about 40 km from Toscolano Maderno. Verona Airport is the nearest airport for the lake.
On the water, Navigazione Laghi runs regular ferry services, and boat taxis are also available. A car ferry connects Toscolano-Maderno with Torri del Benaco on the east shore.
The municipality has a research botanical garden, Roman remains, the late 15th-century Sanctuary of Supina and the Paper Mill Valley museum. Salò and Gardone Riviera are neighbouring towns on the lake.
