70 stays · 67 aparthotels and 3 serviced apartments
Alanya is one of the Turkish Riviera's main resorts and also a place where tens of thousands of foreigners live, which makes aparthotels and serviced apartments a natural way to stay. Families get space and a kitchen for long beach days, and winter visitors staying a month or more can settle into a neighbourhood rather than a hotel corridor.

The centre sits beside the castle headland, with Cleopatra Beach, Damlataş Beach and the dripstone cave close by. The cable car (teleferik) climbs from Damlataş Station to the castle, and the harbour is guarded by the 33 m Red Tower of 1226. It is the most convenient base if you want to do without a car.

Oba, almost merged with Alanya to the east, was a separate town until 2013 and was once the capital of the medieval Alaiye beylik. Along with neighbouring Tosmur it is mainly residential, and Oba's economy still includes citrus growing. Dolmuş minibuses link both with the centre.

Kestel is a coastal neighbourhood south-east of the centre, home to around 15,000 people and a town in its own right until 2013. It lies between the centre and Mahmutlar, so it suits those who want a base with easy access to both.

Mahmutlar, about 10 km east of the centre, has been transformed by the building of holiday homes and apartments for European visitors, and now has more than 50,000 residents. With so much accommodation built for foreign visitors, it is a common choice for long stays, and it is on the airport side of town.
Gazipaşa–Alanya Airport lies along the coast to the south-east, about 30 minutes by road, and has had international flights since 2011. Many international visitors fly into Antalya Airport, roughly 120 km to the west, which is around two hours away by road.
Around town, dolmuş minibuses ply all the main streets and link the coastal neighbourhoods with the centre. The teleferik runs daily from 9.30 am between Damlataş and the Ehmedek section of the castle, saving the steep climb on foot.
With such a large resident foreign community, Alanya is well set up for longer stays. Most long-stayers pick between the centre, for walkable beaches and sights, and the larger eastern neighbourhoods such as Oba and Mahmutlar, which are home to tens of thousands of residents and connected by dolmuş. If you plan to stay through the winter, remember that this is when most of the year's rain falls.
If you are moving for work or a long sabbatical, our relocation guide has practical tips. For a change of scene, Antalya is the nearest big city.
Alanya has a Mediterranean climate: summers are long, hot and dry, and most rain falls in winter. The sea is at its warmest in August, averaging about 29 °C, and coolest in February at around 17 °C, which keeps swimming pleasant from late spring well into autumn.
The town hosts an international culture and art festival and an ITU-sanctioned triathlon that has run since 1990, along with beach volleyball championships. Damlataş Cave, with a steady temperature of about 22 °C and very high humidity, is a draw in any season.
The town grew up around a rocky headland crowned by its Seljuk castle, and now stretches for more than 20 km along the coast either side of it. Around 55,000 foreign residents were recorded in 2022, more than half of them Russian speakers, and whole districts east of the centre have been built up with apartments for European visitors. See our Turkey hub for other resorts on this coast.
