Aparthotels and serviced apartments suit Bodrum because the town is the hub of a whole peninsula rather than one compact centre. A kitchen and extra living space make it easier to settle into a single base for a week or more, whether you are a family, a group sharing, or a visitor mixing beach days with trips along the coast. Bodrum sits in Muğla Province on Turkey's Aegean coast, and Wikipedia lists 56 neighbourhoods in Bodrum District, including Bitez, Turgutreis, Gümüşlük and Yalıkavak. If you are new to the format, our guide explains what an aparthotel is.

The centre wraps around the castle and marina. Sights listed by the municipality include the castle, the ancient theatre, the Mausoleion and the underwater archaeology museum, and its website also points to public beaches and Bodrum's markets. Wikivoyage adds the windmills and the amphitheatre to the list of main attractions. Staying here means most sights are within walking distance.

Wikivoyage places Gümbet 4 km west of Bodrum town and describes its sandy beaches. It is on the route of town bus 2-28, which Wikivoyage lists as serving the Gümbet beach strip, Bitez, Müskebi, Ortakent and Camel Beach every 20 minutes daily, so a base here can still reach the centre without a car. Check the current timetable before relying on it.

Bitez is one of the neighbourhoods the municipality includes, and Wikivoyage names it among the main settlements of the peninsula. It lies beyond Gümbet on the same bus 2-28 corridor, which makes it a practical choice for visitors who want a beach base with a regular link back to town.
Wikivoyage lists Turgutreis among the largest resort villages of the peninsula and puts the more exposed west coast around it. Wikivoyage lists bus 2-34 from Bodrum to Turgutreis every ten minutes daily, 07:00 to 00:00. It suits visitors who prefer a base away from the castle area, and who are happy to use a bus, dolmuş or taxi to reach Bodrum town.
Gümüşlük is listed by Wikivoyage among the largest resort villages of the peninsula, and Wikivoyage notes that the ancient city of Myndos lies buried beneath it. Wikivoyage lists bus 2-45 from Bodrum, hourly daily. It sits on the west side, so it is a better fit if you want a smaller-scale stay and do not mind travelling for the town's main sights.
Wikivoyage lists Yalıkavak among the largest resort villages of the peninsula, and Wikipedia says it has a marina. Wikivoyage lists bus 2-6 from Bodrum to Yalıkavak every 20 minutes daily, 07:00 to 22:00. It is a sensible choice if you want to be away from the busiest part of Bodrum town.

Milas-Bodrum Airport is the nearest airport and handles domestic and international flights. Wikipedia gives its distance as 36 km, and Wikivoyage as 35 km northeast of Bodrum. Wikivoyage lists bus 48-24 running irregularly to the centre and notes that the Havas airport bus was not running in 2023, so check current airport transfer options before you travel. A taxi or pre-arranged transfer is the other route.
Across the peninsula, dolmuş minibuses and town buses do most of the work. The municipality publishes bus timetables for Bodrum district through its transport portal. By sea, Wikipedia says the port has ferries to nearby Turkish and Greek ports and islands, with Kos the main Greek destination. Wikivoyage lists Tilos Travel sailing from Kos twice a day year-round in about 25 minutes, and Bodrum Feribot sailing from Datça to Bodrum. Wikivoyage also records that the new Yeni Otogar inter-city bus terminal opened in 2022, 5 km northeast of town.
For a longer stay, pick your area by the bus or dolmuş route you will use daily, because the peninsula spreads over a large municipality. The municipality's website lists Bodrum's markets alongside its public beaches, so cooking in your apartment is practical, and Wikivoyage notes that street markets in town involve haggling.
Wikivoyage describes the climate as Mediterranean, with hot sunny summers and mild rainy winters. If you are weighing a month or more, our guide to serviced apartments for relocation covers what to compare between properties, from laundry facilities to kitchen equipment.
Wikivoyage describes Bodrum as having hot sunny summers and mild rainy winters, with the sea at 24°C or more from June to October. Wikipedia classes it as a hot-summer Mediterranean climate with minimal summer rainfall, and quotes 34°C for summer and 15°C for winter. Water-sports and beach stays therefore fit best between early summer and autumn, while the shoulder months suit sightseeing.
Wikivoyage says the best conditions for yacht and gulet charters are June to September, and that May suits shore-based activities, so the season is a long one for the Aegean. Check the municipality's event listings for the current festival calendar before booking.
The town itself is built around two landmarks. The Castle of St. Peter was constructed by the Knights Hospitaller in the 15th century and now houses the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology, while the ruins of the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, remain visible in the centre. Wikivoyage notes that the marina was once the shipyard, and that the traditional gulet has long been Bodrum's main product. For the wider country, see Turkey, or compare with Istanbul if you are planning a longer trip.
Of the 20 properties here, 8 offer an in-apartment washing machine, 8 list a laptop-friendly workspace, 5 include some form of housekeeping and 11 have a 24-hour front desk. Each property page has a facts box, so you can compare apartments before you book.
11 properties list a full kitchen and 9 only a kitchenette, so check the room type if you plan to cook more than simple meals.
Where room sizes are published, the median apartment here is 45 m².

For sights and the marina, stay in Bodrum town centre near the castle. Gümbet and Bitez suit beach stays with a bus link to town, while Turgutreis, Gümüşlük and Yalıkavak are resort villages further along the peninsula, each with its own bus route from town.
Wikipedia gives 36 km and Wikivoyage 35 km northeast of Bodrum. Wikivoyage lists an irregular bus 48-24 to downtown, and taxis and transfers are the alternative.
Wikipedia says the port has ferries to Greek islands with Kos the main destination, and Wikivoyage lists Tilos Travel sailing from Kos twice a day year-round in about 25 minutes. Check the operator for current timetables.
Not necessarily. Dolmuş minibuses and town buses serve the peninsula, including bus 2-28 to Gümbet, Bitez, Müskebi, Ortakent and Camel Beach per Wikivoyage, though a car or taxi helps for the west and north coasts.
