Kalkan is an old fishing town in the Kas district, known for white-washed houses stepping down to the sea. Wikipedia says it averages 300 days of sunshine a year and is the only safe harbour between Kas and Fethiye. Dolmus minibuses connect it with Kas along the coast.

Getting around Kas

Dalaman Airport is the closest, according to Wikivoyage, with seasonal package flights from Europe and the UK, and Wikipedia lists Kas among the areas it serves. Wikivoyage gives the distance as 180 km from Kalkan and about two and a half hours by road on the D400. Antalya is the closest major city, 168 km east, according to Wikipedia, and buses run from its terminal roughly every 45 minutes, taking around four hours.

Kas Otobus Terminali, the new bus station, is 5 km east of town on the highway to Demre, and Wikivoyage says a dolmus then takes you to the old bus station in the centre. In town, most things are walkable, and dolmus minibuses run to the peninsula and along the coast to Kalkan and Demre. Meis Express and Meis Ferry Lines sail daily to the Greek island of Kastellorizo, taking about 20 minutes, per Wikivoyage.

Living in Kas for longer

Wikivoyage lists small supermarkets in town, including a Carrefour on Ataturk Boulevard, and street markets on Friday by the old bus station and on Tuesday on the hill just west of the centre. Wikipedia notes that the district grows oranges, lemons, bananas, cut flowers and vegetables, much of it under glass, so fresh produce is a strength of the area.

When to visit Kas

Wikivoyage describes a subtropical Mediterranean climate: summers are hot and sticky with average daytime highs of 35 degrees Celsius and very little rain, while winters are mild with daytime temperatures around 15 degrees and occasional very heavy rain. It calls September a good time to visit, with warm seas but without the sweltering summer heat.

Wikivoyage also notes that the bars are open until late during the April to October tourist season, and that Republic Day celebrations on 29 October mark the end of the season, after which many businesses close for winter. If you want a quiet stay with the town fully open, aim for the shoulder months.
