Cesme is a resort town on a promontory at the western tip of the Cesme peninsula in Izmir Province, and aparthotels and serviced apartments suit it because most visitors come for beach, thermal and watersports weeks: a kitchen and living area give families and groups room to spread out, and a flat makes a longer summer stay more practical than a single room.

Cesme town is built around the castle, which was extensively strengthened under Sultan Bayezid II and rebuilt in 1508, and which now houses a museum. Wikivoyage notes that the old town has many 19th and early 20th century Ottoman buildings around it. It is the best base if you plan to use the ferries to Chios or want to walk to cafes, shops and sights.

Ilica is the resort area about 5 km east of Cesme and is described by Wikipedia as famed for its thermal springs, and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's GoTurkiye portal calls Ilica the most famous of the area's thermal springs, with a white-sand beach of the same name. It is a practical choice for visitors who want a resort feel close to the sea.

Alacati is a township in Cesme district that Wikipedia describes as one of the most traditional towns in Turkey, with stone houses, narrow streets, boutique hotels and restaurants. Wikipedia describes its bay as one of the world's leading windsurfing bays and a good place for beginners because it is shallow, so it is the natural base for watersports.
Altinkum is one of the beaches Wikivoyage names in the area, south of Cesme across the headland, and Wikivoyage describes the beaches there as windy and well suited to windsurfing and kiteboarding. It suits visitors who want a beach-focused stay and are happy to travel into town for dinner.

Most visitors fly into Izmir and continue by road. Wikivoyage says a Havas airport bus runs directly from Izmir airport to Cesme, and that buses and dolmuses from Izmir run frequently, taking 30 minutes along the O-32 highway. Fast catamarans to Chios take around 20 minutes and standard ferries around 45, with four a day in summer and fewer in winter, according to Wikivoyage, and Wikipedia lists ferry links to Italian ports as well.
Within the district, Cesme town can be explored on foot, but Ilica, Alacati and the beaches are spread along the peninsula, so many visitors use local buses, taxis or a hire car. Wikivoyage says dolmuses link Cesme, Alacati and the outlying hotel strips.
A longer stay works best in a district matched to how you spend your days. Cesme town has everyday shops and the ferry port, Alacati has a lively restaurant scene and windsurfing, and Ilica combines thermal springs with a resort setting. A kitchen is useful for family meals and for self-catering around beach trips.
Because the beaches and towns are spread out, a car or regular taxi use makes it easier to live in a quieter district. For tips on choosing and booking a longer stay, see serviced apartments for relocation.
Cesme has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters, and Wikipedia gives annual precipitation of about 593 mm. Summer is the beach and watersports season, and Wikivoyage notes that ferries to Chios run more often then, while fewer services run in winter. The GoTurkiye portal says Alacati is quite busy in July and August.
Alacati holds an annual herb festival in April, according to Wikipedia. Outside summer the area is quieter, so check the opening times of restaurants and beach facilities before you travel.
The district lies about 85 km west of Izmir, and the Greek island of Chios is only about 10 km away across the water. Wikipedia counts 48,924 residents in 2022 and calls it a popular holiday resort, with Cesme Castle dominating the town. This page covers the main areas to stay, how to arrive and get around, and when to go. For the wider region see Izmir and for the country overview see Turkey.
