Noosa Heads sits at the northern end of Queensland's Sunshine Coast, wrapped by Laguna Bay, the Noosa River and Noosa National Park. Aparthotels and serviced apartments in Noosa Heads fit the way people holiday here: families settle in for a week or two of beach and river days, couples base themselves near Hastings Street's restaurants, and a kitchen makes the most of local markets and delis. Low-rise resorts, rather than towers, line the sheltered beaches and waterways.
30 stays
Hastings Street is a low-rise strip of resorts, cafés, restaurants and boutiques with Noosa Main Beach on one side and the Noosa River ferry stop on the other. The beach is sheltered, the national park begins at its eastern end, and Noosa Woods and the river-mouth spit are at its western end. The Noosa Visitor Information Centre is beside the surf club.
Stays in or near Hastings Street & Main Beach
This waterside area lies on the Noosa River beside Hastings Street, a short walk from Main Beach. The Noosa Water Taxi picks up and drops off along the Noosa Sound waterfront, and the river ferry calls at the Hastings Street jetty nearby.

The town's business area, Noosa Junction, has a Translink bus station and a taxi rank, making it a practical base for getting around without a car. It sits a little inland between Hastings Street and Sunshine Beach, with the national park close by.

Noosaville follows the Noosa River along about 2 km of grassy foreshore, with the restaurants and cafés of Gympie Terrace looking over the water. It is the place to hire kayaks, paddleboards and self-drive boats, and it has craft breweries and organic markets a little back from the river.
On the southern side of the national park headland, about five minutes' drive from Noosa Heads, Sunshine Beach is a village around Duke Street with cafés, bars and surf shops. It marks the start of around 15 km of open surf beach, and a coastal track leads around the headland to Noosa Heads in about two and a half hours.
Sunshine Coast Airport at Maroochydore is about 30 minutes' drive south, with direct flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Auckland; taxis, Uber, transfers and Translink public buses run from the terminal to Noosa. From Brisbane Airport, allow about an hour and a half by road via the Bruce Highway, using a pre-booked transfer or coach. Queensland Rail's Travel Train stops at Nambour and Cooroy, where buses connect to Noosa.
Locally, Translink buses link Hastings Street, Noosa Junction, Noosaville, Sunshine Beach, Tewantin and the hinterland towns. The Noosa Ferry runs along the river every 45 minutes between Tewantin and Hastings Street, with seven stops, and a network of bike paths connects the area. Parking around Hastings Street is scarce and time-limited, so leave the car where you are staying if you can.
For a big shop, Noosa Civic Shopping Centre is on the Translink bus network, and Noosaville's delis are good for picnic supplies. The Noosa Farmers Market runs every Sunday, and Noosaville's industrial estate has local design showrooms, breweries and distilleries. Taxi ranks are at Hastings Street and Noosa Junction, and Uber operates locally, though cars are harder to find late at night and in peak holidays.
Swim between the red and yellow flags on Main Beach; the water south of the groyne is usually calmer than to the north, where waves and rips are larger. If you are moving to the Sunshine Coast, see our guide to serviced apartments for relocation.
Noosa has a subtropical climate. Summer daytime highs average around 28–29°C, while winter days stay mild at about 21–22°C, with cooler nights. February and March are the wettest months, and late winter into early spring is the driest stretch. Humpback whales pass the coast from June to October, and peak holiday periods are the busiest times.
The Noosa Food & Wine festival takes over Noosa Woods and the town's restaurants each June, with the 2027 edition set for 17–20 June.
Noosa Heads, Noosaville and Tewantin form one continuous town, with Sunshine Beach just over the headland. Brisbane is about an hour and a half's drive south, and the coast continues through Noosaville and down to Mooloolaba.
