Da Nang combines a working city on the Han River with a long sandy coastline, and aparthotels and serviced apartments let you enjoy both. A kitchen and a separate living area make sense in a place where many visitors stay for weeks, mixing beach mornings with trips to Hoi An, the Marble Mountains and Ba Na Hills, and families appreciate the extra space during the hot, humid summer months.

The commercial downtown on the west bank of the Han River, home to Han Market, offices, restaurants and the riverside promenade. The Dragon Bridge crosses the river from its riverside, and the airport is roughly a 10-minute drive away.
Stays in or near Hai Chau
Across the river, My Khe is the city's main white-sand beach, the start of a strand that runs almost 40 km south towards Hoi An. The seafront is lined with resorts, cafés and seafood restaurants, and downtown is a short ride over the Dragon Bridge.
Stays in or near My Khe Beach
A small neighbourhood just back from the beach, with a cluster of low-key Vietnamese restaurants and coffee shops. It is a practical base for longer stays, with the sea close by and the city centre a short ride away by taxi or Grab.
Stays in or near An Thuong
The district at the foot of the Son Tra peninsula, a mountainous nature reserve to the north-east with wild streams and seaside resorts. The reserve is home to red-shanked douc monkeys, and the Son Tra Night Market is near the Dragon Bridge.
Stays in or near Son Tra
The southern beach district around the Marble Mountains, a group of five limestone hills with Buddhist temples and caves about 9 km from the centre. Here the beach becomes Non Nuoc, lined with resorts, and Hoi An is closer than from downtown.
Da Nang International Airport, the third-largest international airport in Vietnam, sits about 3 km south-west of the centre. The drive downtown takes around 10 minutes by taxi or Grab, which has a dedicated pick-up area, and city buses 6 and 10 also run downtown. Shuttle buses connect the airport with Hoi An in about 45 minutes.
Within the city, metered taxis and the Grab ride-hailing app are the most convenient ways to get around, and the city bus network can be planned with the DanaBus app. The riverside and beachfront promenades are pleasant on foot in the cooler hours, and bridges over the Han River link downtown with the beach districts.
For daily shopping, Han Market in Hai Chau sells food, clothing and silk, while the evening markets, including the Son Tra Night Market by the Dragon Bridge and the larger Helio Night Market, are good for street food and inexpensive meals. Supermarkets and convenience stores are widespread in the central districts.
Plan longer stays around the seasons: the dry months from January to August are best for the beach, while September to December brings heavy rain and the risk of typhoons, when an apartment with good drainage and indoor space is worth having. Grab is the easiest way to run errands without your own transport.
Da Nang has a tropical monsoon climate. The dry season runs from January to August, with the hottest weather from June to August, when humidity is high and temperatures can climb well above 30°C. The wet season, from September to December, brings typhoons and tropical storms, with October and November usually the wettest months. December to February is cooler, around 18–23°C.
The Da Nang International Fireworks Festival lights up the Han River on several nights between late May and July, and the Dragon Bridge breathes fire and water every Saturday and Sunday at 9pm.
The airport is only about 3 km from downtown, so short business trips are easy, while the beach districts across the river suit slower, longer stays. For other bases on the coast, see Hoi An or the Vietnam hub, and read aparthotel or hotel? if you are weighing up the options.
