Trần Phú road follows the main beach for about 6 km, backed by a well-kept promenade with walking paths, gardens and monuments. The southern section has the densest cluster of places to stay, with the sea on one side and restaurants on the other. The water is calm but gets deep quickly, so take care when swimming.

Bãi Dài (Long Beach)

About 20 km south of the city, Bãi Dài has clear blue water and soft sand, and its resorts are much closer to Cam Ranh airport. It suits a beach-focused stay; the airport bus also passes this stretch if you want to visit from town.

Getting around Nha Trang

Cam Ranh International Airport is around 28–30 km south of the city and has flights to major Vietnamese cities and several international destinations. An airport bus runs into the centre in about 50 minutes, and fixed-rate taxis and Grab are available; many larger places to stay also arrange transfers.

In town, cheap city buses cover the main routes, including bus 4 through the tourist area and bus 5 along the coast. Grab and metered taxis are easy to find. Nha Trang station, about 1 km north of downtown, is on the north–south Reunification Railway, and boats leave for the islands of the bay, including the Hòn Mun marine protected area, a popular spot for diving.

Living in Nha Trang for longer

For self-catering, Xóm Mới and Chợ Đầm are traditional markets for fresh produce, meat and fish, and large supermarkets include a two-storey Lotte Mart and GO! (formerly Big C). A base near the old town keeps these within easy reach.

Plan around the weather: the rainy months bring rough seas that can disrupt boat trips and beach days. If you are comparing apartment-style stays with a resort hotel, read our guide to aparthotels versus hotels.

When to visit Nha Trang

Nha Trang has a tropical savanna climate with a long dry season from January to August and a shorter wet season from September to December, when the monsoon brings strong sea winds from October to mid-December. The provincial average temperature is around 26°C.

The dry months are the best time for swimming, diving and island trips, and summer is the busiest period for domestic holidaymakers. The city also hosts the biennial Nha Trang Sea Festival on the bay.

Most places to stay are packed along or just behind the seafront, so the choice is mainly between the busy central strip, the quieter north and the resorts south towards the airport. For other Vietnamese coastal stays, see Da Nang and Quy Nhon.
