Aparthotels & serviced apartments in Hanoi

209 stays · 165 aparthotels and 44 serviced apartments · from €21/night

Hanoi has been Vietnam's capital for more than a thousand years and is the country's leading centre of scientific study and research, as well as a natural base for exploring the north. Aparthotels and serviced apartments in Hanoi suit the city well: traffic crawls for much of the day, so a well-placed apartment with a kitchen and space to work lets you walk to what you need, shop at street markets and settle in for a longer stay rather than shuttling across town.

Old Quarter

  • first-time visitors
  • street food
  • short stays

The dense grid of narrow streets around and north of Hoan Kiem Lake, holding some of the country's best-preserved colonial and pre-colonial architecture. Everything is walkable, the lakeside is traffic-free at weekends, and express bus 86 from the airport stops nearby at Long Bien.

South and east of Hoan Kiem Lake, around the Opera House and Trang Tien book street, the grand colonial avenues are calmer than the Old Quarter but only a few minutes' walk away. There is a central Aeon Fivimart supermarket just east of the lake.

The shores of West Lake, about 2 km from the Old Quarter, are mostly a residential area for the well-to-do, with restaurants along Xuan Dieu and Nghi Tam streets. Airport bus 86 runs non-stop along the expressway to Tay Ho, which makes arrivals easy.

The western side of Ba Dinh around the Lotte Center, Hanoi's second-tallest building, with a large supermarket in its basement. The nearby Linh Lang area is home to the Japanese embassy and much of the city's Japanese community, with many Japanese restaurants. Allow about 15 minutes by car to Hoan Kiem Lake.

Getting around Hanoi

Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) lies about 35 km north-east of downtown. Express bus 86 leaves from the arrivals level every 25 minutes or so, runs non-stop to Tay Ho and then on to Long Bien near the Old Quarter and the railway station in roughly 45 minutes; bus 07 is slower. Official taxi ranks are just outside arrivals: ignore touts, use a reputable firm such as Mai Linh or Taxi Group, and have your address written in Vietnamese.

Metro Line 2A runs from Cat Linh to Yen Nghia in the south-west, and Line 3 from Cau Giay to Nhon in the north-west; the two are not yet joined. Both accept contactless Visa and Mastercard. City buses are air-conditioned and cheap; the BusMap Hà Nội app helps with routes. Grab is the simplest way to book cars and motorbike taxis, and walking is the best way to explore the Old Quarter.

Living in Hanoi for longer

Most grocery shopping still happens at street markets, but supermarkets are increasingly common: Winmart has large and mini stores across the city, Aeon Fivimart is central, and Lotte Mart at the Lotte Center stocks many imported goods. Daily and monthly metro tickets are sold at station windows, and reloadable smart cards from station machines.

Pack for winter if you are staying from December: homes rarely have heating, and the humidity makes it feel colder than the thermometer suggests. Air pollution is also worst in winter, so an air purifier and a mask are worth considering. In summer, take mosquito precautions. Heading south afterwards? When to visit Hanoi

Autumn is the most comfortable season, with lower humidity, falling temperatures and the scent of milkwood flowers along many streets. Spring brings warmer days and light rain. Summer is hot, very humid and stormy. December and January are the driest months but feel cold and damp, and rains pick up again from mid-February.

Tet (Lunar New Year) usually falls between late January and around 20 February and is the year's biggest holiday; in 2026 the break ran for nine days, from 14 to 22 February. Spring flowers are at their best around this time.

The centre is compact and low-rise, with few buildings above five storeys. Most visitors stay around Hoan Kiem Lake, in the Old Quarter or the French Quarter, while residents and long-stay guests often prefer the quieter streets around West Lake or the embassy district of Ba Dinh.
